Hello! I am Amanda! I am student-athlete at the Southern University. I am a senior Interdisciplinary Studies major and a prospective student of the Southern University School of Nursing. My career goal is to be a Doctor of Nursing Practice. I am creative and fun, but I am also a diligent and hard worker. I push my students in order for them to reach their full potential. In order to pin point the issue, I conduct a little quiz to see where the issues are stemming from. The quiz also allows me to watch how the student behaves in a test/quiz setting and allows me to see if the problems stem from elements outside of the material. Elements outside the material can range anywhere from rushing through the quiz, test, or homework and/or understanding the material, but not doing the proper preparation. I ask that past test, quizzes, and homework be brought so I can get an overview of where the issues began.

I have had a lot of tutoring experience on various topics. All of my students have done well in the course and still come back when they need help. I create an environment that is conducive for learning. I want the students to be comfortable and open with me. If they do not communicate with me I will not know how to help them. I want the best for each student. When they succeed, I succeed.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

Algebra is one my favorite subjects to teach and I find that it is the easiest to teach because I make sure that my students are grounded in the fundamentals. Math is one of my favorite subjects and one that I know like the back of my hand.

Elementary Math

One of my specialties is helping elementary school students. I have put together a curriculum in order to help keep their attention and allow to retain as much information as possible.

English

English has to be my favorite subject by far. I am able to tutor students on writing essays, revising/editing essays, and grammar. My goal is to get the student to a level where he/she will excel in all topics of English!

General Computer

The computer is one of the areas where I would consider myself an expert in. Whether it be the Microsoft Office program or simple computer skills, I can do it all and then some. After all, I have been tinkering with computers since I was four years old.

Public Speaking

I have taken two public speaking courses. The first was an intensive introductory course and the other dealt with health communications. I was the best speaker in my class and I was able to teach my classmates how to become better speakers as well. In addition, I am also a part of several organizations that require me to speak to audiences of all sizes.
