I was employed for two years as tutor for a school district. I tutored high school students in all ranges of subjects, but my specialties include English (both Pre-AP/Honors, AP, and non-Honors), biology (Honors/Pre-AP and regular), chemistry (Honors/AP and regular), psychology (AP and regular), sociology, anatomy and physiology, and algebra I. I attended a top school in Texas and I am enrolled in college.

I prefer working with individual students, because I can accomplish more with the student. I get to know each student individually and use their personality preferences and interests to find relevant and interesting analogies and explanations to help them comprehend and reinforce difficult concepts.

I approach students with kindness, patience, and understanding. I break information down into the simplest terms possible and give them helpful tips on how to remember and retain information. Sometimes, the simplest ideas and tips need to be emphasized! I have an optimistic and determined attitude at all times in every aspect of my life, including helping students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have tutored high school students in algebra 1 for a high school for a full year. I earned A's in Algebra 1 in high school and consistently helped my friends obtain A's on tests by helping explain concepts to them. I believe Algebra 1 is the best math subject I can tutor, since I believe I have mastered it fully through both my experience as a tutor and my rigorous coursework during high school.

Anatomy

I have extensive knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology. Anatomy and Physiology is an enthralling subject for me- I loved helping my fellow classmates in high school when I took Anatomy and Physiology my senior year. In college, I made an "A" in Anatomy and Physiology II and I also made a 100% on the Anatomy and Physiology portion of my Pre-Nursing Entrance Exam (HESI).

Biology

During high school when I first took Biology, I absolutely adored the class and learning everything about the biological world around me. My classmates often sought my help because of my thorough understanding of the material and I was glad to help them. I finished the class with a high "A". When I entered college and took General Biology, I enjoyed learning even more about the subject. I finished my General Biology I class also with an "A". I have such a passion for Biology- I understand it in detail and I love learning new things about it every single day. I teach many students in Biology and I enjoy drawing diagrams, giving lots of examples, and having a little fun while I'm teaching it to them.

Chemistry

Chemistry is another fascinating subject to me and I have always enjoyed the Chemistry courses I have taken in high school and college. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring my students all levels of chemistry from elementary school science to General Chemistry I.

English

I took Pre-AP English I and II from a top Fort Bend school and made A's in English for all four years of high school English. Throughout those four years, especially my junior and senior year, I helped many of my classmates during the research and writing process. I've also taken English in college and made A's. At my professional job at F.B.I.S.D., I tutor in all four levels of English, including Pre-AP and AP English. I love to edit, revise, and review papers constructively to improve grammar, vocabulary, flow, organization, and structure. This is one of the subjects I love to tutor in because it's exciting and interesting to read the styles of each individual and to help them write and analyze a beautiful paper.

Microbiology

All through high school Biology, one of my favorite topics within the course discussed viruses and bacteria. I love studying about infections and diseases caused by microorganisms! When I took College Microbiology, I made an "A" in the course! It was one of my favorite courses in college.

Public Speaking

I have 3 years of experience on an Academic Speech Team. I participated in Public Forum for one full year, Lincoln-Douglas Debate for one full year, Novice Extemporaneous Speaking for one full year, Oratory for one semester, Prose Interpretation for one semester, and Poetry Interpretation for all three years. In addition to competing in events such as those, I have also critiqued and watched fellow speech team members participate in the same events in addition to Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, and Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking. Hearing advice given to speakers advanced my knowledge of how to participate in the events I competed in and also events my teammates competed in. I have placed in the top 3 at UIL Districts for Poetry Interpretation two times. I am an official member of the National Forensic League.

Study Skills

I have a thorough knowledge of the Cornell style of taking notes in order to perfect note-taking and study skills. At my job at a high school, I assisted students in learning classroom material, encouraged students to challenge themselves, helped students self-analyze, reflect upon, and improve study methods, and also provided tips for remembering difficult material. In addition to providing general tips for all students, I tailor study practices to fit a student's individual needs. I also use Costa's Levels of Questioning as part of the AVID organization. The Levels of Questioning help narrow the focus of study for students by asking analytical questions.

Writing

I took Pre-AP English I and II and made A's in English for all four years of high school English. Throughout those four years, especially my junior and senior year, I helped many of my classmates during the research and writing process. I've also taken English in college and made A's. At my professional job as a tutor at a high school, I tutored in all four levels of English, including Pre-AP and AP English.
