Algebra 1
I have tutored high school students in algebra 1 for the Fort Bend School District for a full year. I earned A's in Algebra 1 in high school and consistently helped my friends obtain A's on tests by helping explain concepts to them. I believe Algebra 1 is the best math subject I can tutor, since I believe I have mastered it fully through both my experience as a tutor and my rigorous coursework during high school at a top F.B.I.S.D. school.
Biology
During high school when I first took Biology, I absolutely adored the class and learning everything about the biological world around me. My classmates often sought my help because of my thorough understanding of the material and I was glad to help them. I finished the class with a high "A". When I entered college and took General Biology, I enjoyed learning even more about the subject. I finished my General Biology I class also with an "A". I have such a passion for Biology- I understand it in detail and I love learning new things about it every single day. I teach many students in Biology and I enjoy drawing diagrams, giving lots of examples, and having a little fun while I'm teaching it to them.
English
I took Pre-AP English I and II from a top Fort Bend school and made A's in English for all four years of high school English. Throughout those four years, especially my junior and senior year, I helped many of my classmates during the research and writing process. I've also taken English in college and made A's. At my professional job at F.B.I.S.D., I tutor in all four levels of English, including Pre-AP and AP English. I love to edit, revise, and review papers constructively to improve grammar, vocabulary, flow, organization, and structure. This is one of the subjects I love to tutor in because it's exciting and interesting to read the styles of each individual and to help them write and analyze a beautiful paper.
Public Speaking
I have 3 years of experience on a Fort Bend ISD High School Academic Speech Team. I participated in Public Forum for one full year, Lincoln-Douglas Debate for one full year, Novice Extemporaneous Speaking for one full year, Oratory for one semester, Prose Interpretation for one semester, and Poetry Interpretation for all three years. In addition to competing in events such as those, I have also critiqued and watched fellow speech team members participate in the same events in addition to Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, and Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking. Hearing advice given to speakers advanced my knowledge of how to participate in the events I competed in and also events my teammates competed in. I won 3rd place in Novice Extemporaneous in one tournament and placed 1st at UIL Districts for Poetry Interpretation two times. I am an official member of the National Forensic League.
Study Skills
As an AVID tutor (Advancement Via Individual Determination) for Fort Bend Independent School District, I practice and teach the Cornell style of taking notes in order to perfect note-taking and study skills. AVID tutors assist students in learning classroom material, encourage students to challenge themselves, help students self-analyze, reflect upon, and improve study methods, and also provide tips for remembering difficult material. In addition to providing general tips for all students, I tailor study practices to fit a student's individual needs. I also use Costa's Levels of Questioning as part of the AVID organization. The Levels of Questioning help narrow the focus of study for students by asking analytical questions.
TAKS
I have taken TAKS through all my years of elementary, middle school, and high school. I have always achieved a score of "commended" on each subject area.
