I was employed by Fort Bend Independent School District for two years as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Tutor. I tutored high school students in all ranges of subjects, but my specialties include English (both Pre-AP/Honors, AP, and non-Honors), biology (Honors/Pre-AP and regular), chemistry (Honors/AP and regular), psychology (AP and regular), sociology, anatomy and physiology, and algebra I. I attended a Fort Bend ISD high school, am enrolled in college, and plan on becoming an EMT/paramedic.
During high school, I was a member of the academic speech and debate team for three years, so my communications skills are extensive. Through my experiences on the speech team, I learned how to explain ideas thoroughly and persuasively.
At my job, I primarily worked with students in groups. However, I prefer working with individual students, because I can accomplish more with the student. I get to know each student individually and use their personality preferences and interests to find relevant and interesting analogies and explanations to help them comprehend and reinforce difficult concepts.
I approach students with kindness, patience, and understanding. I break information down into the simplest terms possible and give them helpful tips on how to remember and retain information. Sometimes, the simplest ideas and tips need to be emphasized! I have an optimistic and determined attitude at all times in every aspect of my life, including helping students. I have a sense of humor and enjoy humming or singing in my free time.
