I am currently a campus Language Arts Specialist with 13 years of teaching experience. I have a passion for helping students learn to read. As students master learning to read, I incorporate comprehension skills. Does your student struggle with phonics, reading words, vocabulary, fluency, or comprehension? Yes? My experience has allowed me to work with struggling readers in grades K-4. I utilize a detailed guided reading lesson plan to plan lessons for students. Since I have extensive expertise and practice with elementary students, I am aware of the prerequisites for struggling middle school students as well. I will provide K-6 tutorials for Phonics, Vocabulary, Reading Fluency, Reading Comprehension, and Grammar.

An initial assessment to determine each student's individual needs will be provided. Your child will receive specific, targeted instruction based on their needs. Lesson plans will be written for each session. After each session, a tutorial summary will be provided.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is necessary to comprehend reading. I will guide your student to use a variety of vocabulary building tools that will lead to better reading comprehension.

Grammar

As a Language Arts Specialist, I possess the expertise needed to guide and grow your child's grammar skills. I believe students learn grammar best when seeing and analyzing it in "real" writing along with some isolated practice.

Reading

I have had the pleasure of teaching students to read for over 13 years. I look forward to working with students that are: struggling with decoding words, fluency, vocabulary, and/or comprehension. I will assess your child, set an instructional goal, and provide targeted instruction based on your child's needs. A lesson plan will be written and provided for each session.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have had 13 years of experience in elementary education grades 1-4. As a current campus Language Arts Specialist, I support teachers and students in grades PreK-4. Since phonics is one of the primary determining factors in students learning to read, I have focused on phonics instruction over the past 13 years. I look forward to assisting your child with learning letter names/sounds, blending words, and using phonics to become a better reader!
