Creative Wizard for writing, public speaking, and creativity

I've been self-employed in the advertising and marketing industry for over 15 years. As president and "creative wizard" of Ideas and more, based in Sugar Land, I serve in the functions of writer and creative director for a variety of media such as brochures, web sites and video.

I'm from Louisiana and have a business degree from McNeese University in Lake Charles, my hometown, and did post-graduate study in International Relations at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge. Geaux Tigers! Additionally, I have attended numerous seminars and workshops in many areas of marketing and communication as well as creativity. I also give presentations and speak to various civic clubs and advertising federations on the subjects of idea generation and enhancing creativity in the Houston area and the five state region.

My teaching style, if I have one, is like my personal business style: very hands on and personable but with a straight-talking sense of delivery. I feel I can always learn something, as can the student/audience member. I'm always open to questions and I participate with All Experts, a global site fielding marketing (in my case) questions from around the world.

Writing

I've been writing a variety of ads, articles, blogs, feature stories, etc. for as long as I can remember. As the owner of my advertising and marketing business, I strongly believe in the importance of clearly communicating one's message to the appropriate market. Sure, design is integral to the process, but if one doesn't write the correct and interesting type of content, no one will notice.

General Computer

First off, I know Macintosh a lot better than I do Windows. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Houston Area Apple Users Group (HAAUG) and have been a devoted Mac fan since the early 90s. I own a desktop G4 Power PC and a MacBook Pro laptop. I still have but no longer use a G3 PowerBook laptop. I'm pretty well versed in most if not all Apple software as well as Microsoft Office for Mac and some Adobe products.

Golf

I practically grew up on the golf course. I started out with Putt-Putt Golf (won my first tournament at age 8) and then graduated to the "big" course when I was 10. I played on my high school golf team and throughout college. When I was playing a lot, my handicap got down to about a ten. Public Speaking

I've always felt pretty comfortable in front of people when presenting something and I still try to maintain that appearance. Sure I get nervous, but I try never to let the audience see that. I maintain that a speaker who comes across as genuine and sincere, can project his/her voice sufficiently so that the folks in the back row can easily hear and can be viewed as credible will win over any audience no matter the subject.

Macintosh

I've been working in and running my advertising business for over ten years while operating different Mac computers. I also serve on the local Apple User Group board of directors. I work on both a MacBook Pro and a desktop G4 with a variety of software. As a writer, I have long since preferred the Mac platform.

Marketing

I've been active in the advertising and marketing industry for over 20 years. I've served on the American Marketing Association board of directors and currently serve on the board and executive committee of the American Advertising Federation - Houston. I also lecture and give training workshops on various aspects of marketing and creativity. I'm a firm believer in developing a sound marketing strategy before worrying about what the message will be or how it's going to look.
