I have worked with students for 23 years in a school in my local community.
First, I think children are what we turn them into, and we help them become something valuable in the future. Secondly, it is fascinating to see how little human beings evolve in front of your eyes, with your help, under your guidance. You are proud when they get good results, you feel sorry for them when they fail, but you also teach them how to go on. Then, they never forget you in time and you would be surprised to discover how much they can remember about you- usually good things, small gestures that, at the time, marked them deeply.
Finally yet importantly, you learn something from them and about yourself- you learn new things about them as persons, you learn what patience, empathy and fun may mean. You rediscover yourself and the world through their eyes and souls- and the world can be beautiful. In addition, they charge you with positive energy day by day. When you work with young people, you have the feeling you are young forever in your heart.
