Hello Potential Students and Parents!

My name is Sheetal S. and I am 23 years old. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Houston. When I was younger, I wanted to be an elementary school teacher because I love working with young children because it is the perfect age to influence and shape students to succeed. With my educational background, I believe I can be a good tutor for your child in the math, science, reading as well as writing subject areas.

I have tutored students in 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades in geometry, algebra I and II, English; grammar and reading comprehension, world geography, science and history. My aim when I am tutoring is to give students background knowledge on the subject area and then let them solve problems or answer questions depending on the subject. If they are stuck on a problem, I guide them in the right direction but make sure they arrive at the correct answer on their own because that is the best way to learn. I am sure you want your child to learn how to get an answer instead of just learning what the correct answer is, and that is where a good tutor comes into the picture.

I have also worked at CSTEM, a teacher and student support service organization for about a year and have training working with students K-12 and helping teachers improve their method of teaching. I have experience working directly with students in elementary, middle and high school. Younger students are comfortable with me right away and I think this is important to build the student and tutor relationship. When a student is comfortable with their teacher or tutor, they will have a better learning experience. My goal is to help your child(ren) in their weak subject areas and hopefully turn them into strong subjects for them. I hope you will give me an opportunity to make a difference in your child(ren)'s educational journey.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I tutored students in elementary school when I was in high school. I have tutored elementary students K-6th with their homework. I teach younger kids with analogies to things they will understand. For the very young kids K-2, they have to be taught basic math with analogies to toys, candy etc. To teach children, you have to become a child. Students grades 3-6 feel like they are older so I teach them as if they are older.
