After graduating from Vanderbilt, I had two full time jobs. I have since applied to a graduate program in History and am working part time. My long term goal is to teach History or Art History. I hope to tutor to gain further teaching experience. I have tutored all ages from elementary through high school, mainly in Math. I took almost all honors and AP courses while in high school and went on to double major at Vanderbilt.
While I do not have professional teaching experience, I have a lot of tutoring experience at all different levels. In high school, I babysat a family with 3 elementary school children regularly and helped them with their homework. My high school also had a learning center that facilitated after school tutoring. Through the center, I tutored middle school students in Math and Spanish as well as high school students in Math. Once I went to college, I continued to help the learning center on my school breaks. I also tutored my older brother in Spanish and Art History.
My tutoring style is unique because I am a very creative thinker. I personally excelled in the traditional, structured school environment, but my natural thinking is a little more out of the box. As a result, I was successful in my previous tutoring because I can offer alternative teaching styles to my students. In math especially, it can sometimes be hard for students to see things other than the way they are outlined in the textbook. Every student has their own way of learning and interpreting new information. In a classroom of 20+ people, it is nearly impossible for teachers to provide individualized instruction to those who need an alternative approach. I hope that through my one on one instruction, I could help your student see things in the way that make sense for him/her. I feel that my previous experience, educational background, and creative mind could allow me to aid your child in his/her learning. Thank you for your consideration! I hope to be of assistance to your family.
