My name is Limor and I'm a certified and experienced English remediator. I specialize in the Hickey program, which is a special language technique for teaching dyslexics, developed by Kathleen Hickey and based on the Orton Gillingham approach. It is a highly structured, cumulative, phonic-based technique which incorporates multi sensory methods to optimize learning. It is suitable for any age range, widely used and has proven to be very successful. Your child would not only feel the improvement on the academic level but also on the personal level. As it is a known fact that low academic achievements and low self esteem go hand in hand, becoming a more fluent reader and writer and gaining more confidence will help boost your child's self esteem and make them feel they are part of the class.

I have a tremendous amount of experience in tutoring and coaching ADD/ADHD students, and raising an ADHD child has been a challenge in itself. But it has taught me a lot about being your child's advocate, about trying to find the good in your child, about our battles in life, about raising emotionally healthy children who will eventually grow up to be happy, positive adults, about family relations and so much more. I always make sure to stay on top of my students' academic achievements, but the emotional aspect is just as important to me. As a mother, I have given the emotional support and encouragement to my ADHD son and as a tutor I have done the same with my students.
I think outside the box together with my ADD students. I empathize with my students when they fail to achieve their goals and celebrate their success with them. I believe the sky is the limit, and with the right guidance and support your child can touch the sky and that star waiting to shine, will shine.

My credentials include a BA in English - Linguistics and Literature. I am a Certified English Remediator (trained Dyslexia tutor)
Certified instructor of the Raviv method which is a neuro-cognitive approach to developing and correcting learning and attention skills, in both children and adults. Furthermore, I have experience in ADD coaching, as well as, working with students with special needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have first hand experience with ADD/ADHD as I have a 25 year old son with ADHD and have gone a long way to get him to where he is today. I am also a certified English Remediator, qualified to teach English to students with specific learning difficulties, and I have a tremendous amount of experience tutoring and coaching ADD/ADHD students. I also volunteered (for 4 years) in a non-profit organization in order to promote ADD awareness among parents and teachers.

My in-depth study was on ADHD and its Management at Home and at School, with emphasis on the emotional aspect, the latter being my passion and guideline in my work.

Dyslexia

I am a certified and experienced English remediator (dyslexia tutor). I specialize in the Hickey Program, which is a special language technique for teaching dyslexics developed by Kathleen Hickey and based on the Orton Gillingham approach. It is a highly structured, cumulative, phonic-based technique which incorporates multi sensory methods to optimize learning. It is suitable for any age range, is widely used and has proven to be very successful. It will help your child with reading, writing, spelling, fluency and comprehension. Lessons are diversified and fun, and are based solely on what had been previously taught.

Phonics

I am a certified English remediator and the technique I specialize in (The Hickey Program) is all about phonemic awareness (phonics). I will help your child acquire the skills he/she needs to decode (read) and encode (write) words.
I have seven year experience in tutoring phonics and have helped many students. I am very patient, I think outside the box, and I work with my students according to their needs no matter how long it takes.
I believe every student wants to be good and deserves the chance to succeed.

Reading

As a Dyslexia tutor, I specialize in working with students who find it difficult to acquire literacy skills. I have 7 years' experience in working with students with reading difficulties, and I use a unique technique which is very structured, phonic-based (emphasis on decoding), and at the same time fun to work in and will add to your child's self esteem.

Special Needs

I am a certified and experienced English remediator (a dyslexia tutor) and as such I am qualified to work with students with various learning disabilities - dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, behavior/mood disorder, to name a few.

I am also a certified instructor of the Raviv method - a neuro-cognitive approach to developing and correcting learning and attention skills, in both children and adults.

I have 7 year experience in working with students with LDs and have raised an ADHD child myself. I also have experience in ADD/ADHD coaching.

Spelling

As a Dyslexia tutor, I work with students who find it hard to acquire literacy skills. With the improvement of reading skills and decoding, writing skills and spelling also improve. I use a unique technique, which is phonics-based, that will help your child improve his/her spelling and writing.

Dear readers,   Many times I have been asked about dyslexia by concerned parents, parents who see their child struggling at school or even as early as Pre -K, but don't know what to do or if they panic over nothing.   As a certified dyslexia tutor with a lot of experience, I can identify the warning signs right away. I would like... read more

Dear readers, Allow me to recommend this 34 minute video on ADHD. In this video Joseph Wu stands in front of an audience and talks about his ADHD, his depressions but also about what he's been doing which has brought a lot of happiness into his life. This is a very honest, moving, funny at times, speech about a guy who has been diagnosed ADHD after he had his son diagnosed, and finally... read more

Children with learning disabilities are high maintenance, as any parent who has one knows. As parents, we have to walk on a very thin line when trying to address these childrens' needs. Frustration, anger, acting out, poor performance at school, depression are only part of what they experience, and we have to show empathy, support and encourage them, and at the same time be practical, know... read more
