Hello, and thank you for reading my profile. I currently work as an educational diagnostician with a public school district. You may ask, "What is a diagnostician?" A diagnostician is the person, along with the school psychologist, that tests students (IQ and achievement, usually) for eligibility for special education services. It is a great job because I am fortunate enough to be able to help students reach their maximum potential, regardless of any disabilities they may have.
I possess a masters' degree in special education, and I have taught all grades, from K through college, although I'm most successful with middle school through high school-age students. My specialties are SAT/ACT preparation, math (algebra, geometry, etc.), and written expression. Nearly all my students have shown improvement in their overall understanding of the subject, their test and report card grades, and, most importantly, their ability to succeed independently. I'm quite proud of my previous success teaching at Sylvan Learning Center as well as in students' homes, which is where I enjoy the most success.
In conclusion, I am grateful to be a part of a student's education. My first priority is to teach how valuable learning can be and that it is a lifelong process for every successful person. Teaching has been the most rewarding part of my entire working life, and I hope to continue well into the future. Hello, and thank you for reading my profile. Please allow 24 hours to cancel a tutoring session. My schedule is designed around both my students' convenience and my travel time and expense. Thank you for your cooperation!
We hired Bill for SAT Math tutoring for my son - H.S. senior. He really liked Bill, his personality, his humor and worked very well with him. We had 3 sessions with Bill in one week (even though it was a bit of a drive for Bill) and taught my son the strategies and "tricks" of the SAT Math. My son felt much more confident in taking the SAT for the 2nd time after working with Bill. He raised his math section score by 70 points!
Bill is an excellent tutor. Very knowledgeable in his field, patient, and great at providing strategies for approaching difficult math problems.
Thank you very much for your kind review on our the student's performance and he really liked your tutoring. We will plan for the next schedule based on your availability.
Once again thank you very much.
We are Very Lucky having Bill as our son tutor. We see his progress and his willingness to learn.
Bill was very patient with our daughter who was having difficulty in math. He was on time, and worked with us on scheduling. Our daughter's math grades improved immediately. Our only regret is that we didn't contact him earlier in the school year. Would definitely recommend Bill to anyone looking for a reliable, proficient tutor.
I needed a refresh on math classes I took ten years ago in college. Bill was very helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you.
Bill was a great tutor for my son. He met with him weekly for about two months and I've seen confidence in my son in all of his classes, not just English. Thank you!
Bill has been working with my daughter for right at 2 months. Her grades are improving he can teacher her in the way she understands. I am very pleased with Bill. When I want to add days to help her he always makes it happen.
Bill has been great with my son! He has made him feel very comfortable. He has given him confidence in geometry. My son looks forward to his lesson.
Bill is a VERY patient and understanding tutor. We used him as an algebra tutor and he worked very well with my son who has ADHD. I would highly recommend him.
Bill has been awesome for my son this summer. My son has ADHD, Dyslexia and Dysgraphia and Bill has been wonderful. My son has come farther with Bill than I ever expected. Bill is easy to work with on the schedule and truly cares about my son's performance. Bill is continuing with us even through the school year. He gives me honest feedback after each session and calls me if there are things we need to address sooner. I would and have recommended Bill to my friends.
Bill has been working with my son for about 2 months and there has been a huge improvement in his organization and grades. Bill understands ADHD and what my son needs and has been very helpful in helping turning a poor semester into a much better one.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My background and experience as a dianostician has helped me become an effective educator for students who are struggling with attention and distractibility issues. There are a number of proven techniques that have come into wide usage that I have embraced over the years. Although each student is unique in his/her needs, please know that there are ways for all students to overcome obstacles to their learning.
My background consists of many years of corporate training, public school teaching, private/home school tutoring, and special education teaching. In addition, during my undergrad and graduate studies, I have completed many Math, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Statistics courses while I maintained a 3.9 grade point average.
I currently hold a Master's degree in Special Education and a Texas teaching certificate as well as a certificate as an Educational Diagnostician.
It is very rewarding to teach/tutor Algebra, Geometry, and SAT/ACT preparation - especially when I can see positive results and an increased pride and confidence in my students.
My familiarity with students with Aspergers syndrome is not only from experience (I have both taught and worked with students), but also from my studies (I have a master's degree in special education), as well as assessments as a certified educational diagnostician. I have found that all students are unique and need individual attention to their needs for successful learning to take place. I enjoy the challenge of finding what works with each student, and I welcome the opportunity to help in any way I can.
My familiarity with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder has been developed not only from experience (I have both taught and worked with students), but also from my studies (I have a master's degree in special education), as well as assessments as a certified educational diagnostician. I have found that each student is unique and, especially with the variability of Autism in each student's case (e.g., severity, level of functioning, etc.) there must be a concerted effort by both parents and educators to find what strategy/ies will lead to successful learning for that particular student. I enjoy that challenge, and I welcome the opportunity to help in any way I can.
I can teach beginners to advanced. My specialty is rock, but I'm well-versed in jazz as well. The most important attributes a drummer should have are
1. Great listening skills
3. Steady timekeeping
As an educational diagnostician, I have tested, worked with, and taught many students who exhibit symptoms of dyslexia. This condition can cause problems with decoding letter symbols, reading fluency, pronunciation, and especially writing/spelling. Although it is not considered curable, its effects can definitely be overcome with practice and perseverance.
I've taught and tutored first through 12th grade students with great success. My background in special education has also helped me achieve success with students with dyslexia, ADHD, and specific learning disabilities.
Methods I have used include research-based techniques for phonetics (e.g., Wilson), increased comprehension (e.g., guided reading), and fluency (paired reading, choral reading, etc.).
I am dedicated to your child's success in lifelong reading.
Good Geometry skills will help students understand shapes, angles, and solve real-life problems.
I have been playing guitar for well over forty years. Although I'm mostly self-taught on the guitar, I have been classically trained on piano and trumpet. I can help students learn how to read music, form chords to accompany themselves or others, play in a band, and learn songs by ear and from sheet music. I have experience in the recording industry, and I still occasionally perform live in local clubs.
My background as a special education teacher and diagnostician has given me many opportunities to teach a wide variety of students to read. Basic Reading depends on good phonological skills, and those skills are developed through the effective use of attaching unique sounds to each letter of the alphabet. Certain students with dyslexia find that phonics is difficult and can be the hardest part of their reading. There are many tools available to help students develop good phonics skills. The most important aspects of their successful use is consistency and practice. Over time, the challenges of learning phonics can be met with a thoughtful, patient guide.
My familiarity with students with Special Needs has been developed not only from experience (I have both taught and worked with students), but also from my studies (I have a master's degree in special education), as well as assessments as a certified educational diagnostician. I have found that each student is unique and, with the incredible variety of special needs' diagnoses being discovered, there must be a concerted effort by both parents and educators to find what strategy/ies will lead to successful learning for that particular student. I enjoy that challenge, and I welcome the opportunity to help in any way I can.
One of the most difficult skills to master is the ability to effectively study and comprehend what is being read. For too many students, studying is a dreaded chore with countless preconceived notions about "cramming" in a locked room with a book and a light. Using techniques such as Cornell or SQ3R, studying can become much more process-related with short bursts of energy separated by periods of rest/reinforcement. Each student requires different things to trigger the learning/remembering process.
