I am a former classroom teacher that is looking to continue to help children and adults learn and maximize their future opportunities. I taught 6-12th grade reading and language arts, math, pre-algebra and high school English. I also taught adult education courses to help adults earn their GEDs. In addition to that, I taught ESL to adult learners, safety training courses, including Information Technology in both English and Spanish. Learning starts with a needs assessment and the student will receive individualized attention and patient tutoring that yields results in academic performance, workplace training and much more. No two students are alike and neither is the method of instruction. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for others, and I have the willingness to differentiate the instructional strategies. Give me a try!

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified in Elementary Education, specifically with Reading and Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and Computers. I am also experienced with curriculum differentiation, limited-English speakers and below-average academic performers.

ESL/ESOL

Some of my credentials include ESL Program Manager for Elementary Schools Grade 6-12; Adult Education ESL and Bilingual Language Arts Instructors (ABEL Levels 1-3) and TOEFL Instructor Applications.

English as a Second Language classes includes learning in an immersion environment. Students will use a variety of tools to engage their analytical and thinking abilities, learn how language is processed in the brain and how to use scientifically-proven techniques to form new language acquisition skills. Additionally, students study how word parts, syllables, roots and affixes morph to form new words. Students will use this knowledge to learn the meaning of new words as well as how to use the word in sentences. ESL/ESOL lessons will also include speaking and practice sessions where the students use new content to correctly pronounce English, learn about inflection, use of idioms, and conversation based on cultural situations. Writing for the ESL/ESOL student involves learning the basics from simple sentence construction through the writing process that yields essays, compositions and open-ended responses on academic tests. Listening skills for the ESL/ESOL student will include determining meaning of sentences using inflection cues, usage of words with strong syllable emphasis, and using context clues to determine meaning of conversation content. Students will be prepared to take the TOEFL exam using dynamic study materials and web-based assessment tools.
