Let's make this fun! Math lessons need to be handled in such a way that the student actually looks forward to them. I will make sure that they are enjoyable as well as informative. My success in the classroom was always based on the fact that if I can make the student look forward to class then they will succeed.

I know there are several tutors out there that charge less than I do but ask if they are certified math teachers or are they just filling in until they can get another "real job." This has been my career and just like I don't go to a student dentist, I don't look for the cheapest professional be it an attorney, doctor, or mechanic to fix my car. This is your child's education at stake so please select a tutor that is a professional educator whether it is me or another teacher.

I have twenty years of teaching experience. I have taught all levels of math from grade 8 through calculus as well as at the college level. I am Texas certified and currently teach at Tarrant County College. I focus primarily on SAT and ACT prep as well as high school and college math.

I majored in math in college and have a Master's degree in Mathematics. My students have consistently improved their SAT scores by 200 points overall and raised their class grade by one letter grade. I try to make math fun for my students and work at a pace that the student can maintain.

I will meet your student at you home or a nearby location of your choice. If after your first lesson you don't feel I'm the right fit for your student just let me know and I won't charge you for the first lesson.

###
John's subjects

####
Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra at the high school level for over twenty years. It is a key to understanding later math classes and the basis for all math that follows. I have had a great deal of success helping students increase their grades by at least one letter grade.

####
Algebra 2

I have over twenty years of experience teaching Algebra 2 at the high school level. I have also taught College Algebra. There are several concepts introduced in Algebra 2 that are not in Algebra 1 such as logs, conics, and complex numbers beyond the basics.

####
Calculus

I have a masters degree in mathematics and have taught high school Calculus for several years. The hardest part of Calculus is the first half. Once this is mastered the rest of the course is very straight forward and essentially depends on Algebra skills. I have had several students increase their average by one to two letter grades with tutoring.

####
Geometry

I have over ten years experience teaching high school Geometry. I have helped many student increase their average by more than one letter grade. Geometry is a challenge for a lot of students because it is so unlike other math courses that they have taken. Often it is the first time the student ever had any trouble in math.

####
Prealgebra

Prealgebra is the key to success in all future math courses. The basics learned in this course help in many ways determine the student's success in Algebra as well as Geometry. I have over 22 years of secondary mathematics teaching experience and over 5 years of one-on-one tutoring experience.

####
Precalculus

I taught Pre-Cal for four years here in Texas. The challenging part starts after the review of Algebra 2. This covers Trigonometric functions and continues into new areas. The last part of the course deals with limits and is actually an introduction to Calculus.

####
Trigonometry

I have taught Trigonometry for several years in local high schools. It can be difficult at first but most students catch on quickly with some one on one tutoring.

####
Logic

I have a master's degree in Mathematics. I have also passed two of the actuarial exams. Logic is an integral part of all levels of math and first encountered before high school. It is especially utilized in Geometry and higher mathematics. I have taught courses through Calculus and everything before that. I took one logic course while working for my master's degree in math.

####
ACT Math

The ACT Math test covers Algebra 1, 2, and Geometry plus there are four to six basic trigonometry questions. The test is a very direct test, meaning unlike the SAT the question is asked with no tricks. They are just testing the students knowledge of high school math. I have helped many students increase their math score by 4 to 6 points. This is done primarily by identifying any weakness in their background and building on that.
