SAT or ACT Test Prep/College Prep tutor available

I have tutored many students in the areas of SAT and ACT preparation for over 5 years. I am currently an AVID teacher/coordinator in a major school district serving over 200 students. I have my teacher certification in Special Education, Dance, and hold my Principal's certification as well.

I like to customize all lessons to shore up their areas of weakness within the test so they can spend more time working on their strengths during the test. I also provide short-cuts and "behind the scenes" information to make the test day a bit less stressful and more relaxing.

I hold a Special Education certification in which I specialized in areas of learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, and emotional disabilities. I have the tools to be able to assist students learning to cope with these disabilities become successful on these tests.

I switch up the mode of instruction every 15 to 20 minutes to stimulate the brain and keep the student actively engaged in what we are working on. We might work vocabulary with online vocabulary cards, work reading passages using active reading techniques just to name a few.

I am able to tutor in other areas in English utilizing the AVID model of the student bringing the material and I will ask the higher order thinking questions in order for the student to maximize the tutoring experience. I will never give the answer or get frustrated and just give in. It is important for the student to be able to complete the material on a test independently and feel the satisfaction of a job well done.

SAT Reading

I am a college preparatory teacher working on my 7th year in this position. I specialize in preparing juniors and seniors for the ACT or SAT to be able to apply to their prospective colleges and universities with strong scores. I have been trained by CollegeBoard and attended many CollegeBoard events specializing in the SAT.

ACT Reading

I am a college preparatory teacher working on my 7th year in this position. I specialize in preparing juniors and seniors for the ACT or SAT to be able to apply to their prospective colleges and universities with strong scores. Many of my students return from the test feeling confident in their abilities and knowing there were no suprises. Many students feel that the strategies come in handy for state standardized tests that are now timed.

ACT English

I am currently a college preparatory teacher specializing in preparing juniors and seniors for the ACT and SAT. Most of my students return after the test saying that there were no hiccups because they felt prepared. I work with students extensively on the English and Reading sections because many of my students struggle in these areas.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills in a classroom setting utilizing AVID's systemic researched methods for 6 years. I teach Cornell Notetaking methods, organization, and individualized ways to study. By getting the student organized, they are better able to start down the path to excellent study habits. Career Development

I currently teach a seminar course on careers. I have worked with high school juniors for 5 years finding careers that play to their strengths, while realistically searching for universities with these career choices. I like to candidly speak about careers with the students and allow them to make these difficult decisions while providing them a safety net.

ADD/ADHD

I am a certified Special Education teacher in Texas since 2001. I have worked with students with Attention Deficit Disorders and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders for 7 years. I provided important skills for the students to be able to focus in their academic classrooms, as well as outside of school. By providing them varied activities to keep their attention and switching them every 15 to 20 minutes, they are able to better focus on what is in front of them.

Criminal Justice

I hold a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. I completed an internship with the Houston Police Department in the Homicide Division-Crime Scene Unit. I have tutored in Criminology and Juvenile Justice/Juvenile Law previously.
