Hi, I'm currently an ESL tutor and writing teacher at Texas State while working on an MFA in poetry. I have a BA in English and Psychology with over 4 years of teaching experience. I was in the military for 5 years and taught in South Korea for 3 years at an English Academy and 1 year of private teaching a middle school and high school student. Moreover, I taught 3 Brazilian and 1 Spanish student for 4 months. It was very rewarding and fun to teach them reading comprehension, phonics, American culture, essay writing, and grammar. If they did well I would take them to a movie, dinner, or gaming place.

Even though I've been back in America for over 2 years, they still contact me and I contact them to check up on them and their families.

I had to have a tutor in math when I was in middle school so I know what it's like for the student. Furthermore, with tutoring experience and a caring attitude I can provide a good teacher to student bond for a better learning environment because I know that if the student doesn't like the teacher or detects impatience then they will not learn as well.

My main strength as a tutor is my ability to assess a student's learning style and adjust my teaching style to suit his/her needs. The most rewarding aspect of tutoring is witnessing my students' growth, helping them build their skills, confidence, and knowing that I played a role in their success. Moreover, I also enjoy and appreciate students for their own unique perception.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know you.

Thank you for the opportunity to get to know you and teach you.

Chess

I played chess competitively in High School and in college. I played in numerous USCF (United States Chess Federation) tournaments with a rating of 1750. The average is 1200. I even created an opening chess strategy similar to the Bishop's opening because my style is aggressive.
