I have been a tutor since the fall of 2002. As an undergraduate at St. Mary's University, I was a supplemental instructor for the Calculus
II courses and Finite Mathematics
courses. In addition, I also tutored individual students ranging from developmental mathematics to differential equations
Once I graduated from St. Mary's University, I worked at the community college level tutoring students ranging from developmental mathematics to Calculus III while going for my master's degree in mathematics education at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I have worked with groups as big as 5-6 students, but my main focus has been with one-on-one sessions with students.
As a tutor, my method of tutoring depends on the style the individual I am working with prefers. I feel that as a tutor it is my job to try to make the individual as comfortable as possible, but at the same time present the material in a way that is beneficial to the individual. At my current job, it is my job to train and supervise a large group of tutors (25-30 tutors). During that training, I try to have my tutors focus on being able to adapt to every type of student because each student does not learn the same way. Since I believe that this is the most effective approach to take in each tutoring session, I am always changing and learning from each individual student about how to approach the problems so that he/she is successful in a course or passing a particular exam.
During my years of tutoring, I have tutored most mathematics courses in the high school and college levels. In addition, I have tutored students getting ready to take the GED
, and any other state tests that has a mathematics portion in it.
It is my hope that you choose me as your tutor. I will make sure that your time with me will be enjoyable and rewarding. Thank you for taking the time to read my free response section and I hope to hear from you soon.
