I am a technology teacher in a rural South Texas school. I teach grades 9 - 12 and my main class is Business Information Management, formerly known as BCIS. I have been teaching since 2000 and teaching technology since 2005. Before teaching technology classes, I taught high school and junior high school math as well as junior high school science. I have also tutored students in a variety of classes as part of my job as a teacher.

As a teacher and tutor I believe that creating a patient, safe and caring environment is key for the learner to perform well. I hope to not only know what a student's weaknesses are in a particular subject but also see a snapshot of what has brought them to this point in their lives so I can help the learner to achieve his or her goals.

Recently, I finished my master's degree in Educational Technology. This program allows me to stay much more current with the most effective teaching methods along with technology use in education.

I have a broad knowledge and have been successful in taking the GRE test and I have helped students prepare for SAT, ACT, GRE, ASVAB and GED tests.

When working with students needing help in mathematics, I try to make sure that the student understands how to apply the vocabulary and appropriate formulas so the student can understand what the problems are asking for and how to solve those problems. I believe that calculators can be very effective tools when working on higher mathematics.

When working with students needing help with technology, I try to isolate the specific tasks they are having trouble with and then train the student the different ways to perform that task. When dealing with technology, the students need to understand the process to solve a task and then the specific steps to perform.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 during my teaching career and I have tutored those skills extensively with students at the schools I have taught in. I try to utilize digital resources to supplement print resources so they can understand the concepts instead of just blindly following steps.

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra 2 early in my career when I was a long term substitute teacher and I have tutored Algebra 2 concepts many times as a Math tutor and a tutor preparing students for ACT, SAT, and GRE tests. I am a Certified Microsoft Office Specialist for Microsoft Excel 2007 and Excel 2010. I have taught students how to use Excel in Business situations for the last 7 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science.

Prealgebra

I have worked with Jr. High students as their instructor and tutor. PreAlgebra is an important building block which is essential to allow students to be successful throughout their math career. The most important concept, in my mind, is utilizing proportions in a multitude of ways.

Precalculus

Early in my career, I taught Precalculus and I am certified in Mathematics for grades 4-12. I have also gone through intensive study in the use of educational technology, which allows me to integrate digital resources to help with the understanding of the concepts. While in college, I took 30 hours of college level Mathematics including Calculus 1, 2, & 3.

Statistics

I have been successful in a college level Intro statistics class so I feel comfortable tutoring up to Intro to Statistics in a College level course or up to AP Statistics in a High School setting.

HTML

I have taught HTML programming to high school students. I am comfortable with creating static pages and I can insert and customize java script that already exists, but I can not write original java scripts.

SAT Math

I am a certified Math Teacher for grades 4-12 and I have helped former students prepare for the SAT Math section. In my teaching career I have taught 6th grade - PreCalculus classes and I took 30 hours of Mathematics classes during my college career.

GRE

I am a certified Math teacher for Grades 4-12 and I have been successful on the GRE. I concentrate my lessons on the math and then we look at test taking strategies to help with the reading test. I also can show how to structure the essay and give tips on how to write well for the test.

GED

When preparing to pass the GED I must have the learner take a diagnostic test and tailor the objectives that will be covered by the level of knowledge the learner has achieved. Once I see which objectives must be covered, we take a systematic approach and work through those objectives. I also share the test taking techniques which will greatly increases the chances the learner has to do well on the test.

ASVAB

When working with ASVAB students I can only help with test taking skills which can increase the general score on the test. I can also go into great detail on how to be successful on the two sections that are based on math skills. If your looking for help on other specific sections I may not be the one to help you.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math is a key to the learning of Mathematics throughout a student's career. I am certified to teach Math for grades 4-12. I have been taught how to use digital resources to increase interest for the students and follow the best practices on how to learn and practice math skills. I am comfortable working with younger students, even though I have not worked professionally with younger students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified math teacher for grades 4-12 and I have worked with Elementary aged students for two years as a substitute teacher before I became a certified teacher. I am familiar with several verbal and math programs, like Saxon.

Study Skills

I have been a teacher for 12 years and I have worked all of those years teaching kids how to organize and plan their time as well as how to study for different types of tests.

Web Design

I have been teaching Web Mastering for the last 6 years. A key component to this class is web design. I am able to teach basic HTML as well as utilization of design tools like Adobe Dreamweaver and Microsoft Front Page. I also help design my school district web site. While working on my Master's degree in Educational Technology, I have also worked with designing WIKIs and using other Web 2.0 tools that are web based.

Business

I have taught Business Information Management Systems for the last 7 years and I hold a Texas Teacher Certification in Business Education for grades 6-12.

Computer Science

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. I spent most of my course work logically design a solution and then applying the design by writing the appropriate source code.

Microsoft Access

I am a certified MCSA user of Microsoft Access 2007 and I have taught BusIM/BCIS for 6 years where Access is a major component of the class. In addition, I coach UIL Computer Applications contest where using Access makes up at least half the contest.

Praxis

I am a certified math teacher for grades 4-12 and I have worked on my Master's degree in Educational Technology. I have taken 30 hours of university level Mathematics.

TAKS

I have been teaching for twelve years and I am currently working on my master's degree in Educational Technology. I have tutored students for the TAKS test since it's inception. I can help with English/Language arts as well but my real strength lies in the Mathematics field where I am a certified teacher for grades 4-12.

ACT English

When working with standardized tests, I concentrate on test taking techniques in English and Reading. These techniques can raise scores significantly because they help the test taker understand what the question is looking for and how to eliminate nonsense answers that can be distracting.

ACT Math

When dealing with the math objectives I try to pinpoint the areas the test taker is having trouble with so we don't waste time working on items the test taker already knows. I also try to involve several different resources so the test taker sees a variety of questions that can enhance their test taking experience.

ACT Science

I utilize a combination of test taking skills and general science knowledge up to physics to help prepare the test takers for the test. I also utilize digital and print resources so the test taker sees a wide variety of test type questions.
