I am a certified Secondary Math Teacher, grades 8-12. I have fourteen years of teaching experience in the area of Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Studies Skills. My education degree is in Special education with a emphasis on learning disabilities from Johns Hopkins University. When I moved out to Tucson Arizona, I found a job as a advisor/tutor in the Special Service Department at Pima community College where I taught study skills to college students with learning disabilities. However, there was a need for math tutors, especially in Algebra. Therefore, I enrolled in several math classes while tutoring so that I could become a proficient math tutor.

When I moved to Texas, my goal was to obtain a Math Teaching Certificate which I accomplished in October of 2004. Since then, I have been teaching Resource Algebra and Geometry over the last several years. I also was a Algebra II inclusion teacher at the Round Rock ISD for the last four years. Currently, I am between teaching jobs and have time to tutor on the side. I do plan to take some graduate courses at Texas State University in January. I have tutored Pre-Algebra and Algebra in the Austin area during 2007-2008 school year and look forward to tutoring math skills again.

Algebra 1

Since it's important to have solid Pre-Algebra skills before starting Algebra, I will give a one page pre-assessment of your child's elementary Algebra skills to pinpoint areas of weaknesses. Once I have an idea of what areas that your child is struggling with, then I can devise a remediation plan.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 and College Algebra introduces concepts that lead to Precalculus. However, you need to be competent in the fundamentals of Algebra 1 before tackling Algebra 2 and Advance Algebra. I can informally assess each student's weaknesses in Algebra 1 and devise a remediation plan. Many skills taught in Algebra 2 are extension of Algebra 1 and Intermediate Algebra concepts. Geometry

I have students develop vocabulary note cards which include the definition and its pictorial representation. Since Geometry is a visual subject, it is important to understand the terminology that describe spatial relationships in angles, Geometric shapes, and solids. A formula chart is useful for referencing common perimeter and area formulas. I can supply a scientific calculator, protractor, and compass. It also is a good idea to purchase graph paper and a hand held eraser.

Prealgebra

It's important to have the following supplies at hand before the first tutorial session and I can supply some of these: Graph paper for plotting and graphing points, lines, and shapes, hand held erasers, note cards, and of course pencils. I can supply a scientific calculator. It would be a good idea to purchase a white board and erasable markers, it is good for practicing various math skills.

ADD/ADHD

I am certified in Generic Special Education K-12 and Math 8-12 and have extensive experience working with ADHD students. For most of my fourteen years plus of teaching, I taught Resource Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry. Over the last four years at the Round Rock ISD, I also worked as an inclusion teacher in Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 11. A number of my contact students were ADHD, and with my support they were successful in passing their classes.

Aspergers

I am a certified Generic Special Education K-12 teacher with over fourteen years of teaching experience in Texas. Part of my job as a special education teacher was to advise students with Aspergers and Autism.
