Why choose me? Glad you asked! Not only am I an experienced teacher, but I am also an enthusiastic and energetic person! I hold three different teaching certifications offered by the state of Texas and have experience with each subject as well.

I have an M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University in addition to a B.A. in Communication with a minor in Film Studies from the same institution. I love people, I love to teach, and I love to make a difference and want to help YOU succeed!

My most recent job experience was working as an ELA teacher for Hightower High School in Fort Bend ISD for the 2013-2014 school year. I taught English I, Reading and ESL courses. Before that I taught speech and debate at Needville High School for two years and I also have experience with elementary and college age students as well. I taught 1st and 2nd grade Spanish and American Sign Language for two years at Cornerstone Christian Academy in College Station, TX. I also led a weekly conversation cluster for international students wanting to learn more about the English language and American culture. I loved these jobs so much, I did it for free! How's that for passionate?!

I will continue to work in Fort Bend ISD next year, this time at Elkins High School teaching American Sign Language and English I. I am thrilled for the opportunity and so happy that God blessed me with a wide range of unique skills and interest. I hope to pass on my passion for learning to your child in any of these subject that I am qualified to tutor.

Tracey’s subjects

Art History

I have taken 6 hours of college credit in Art History and continue to study it independently. I have a strong love of art and want to help others appreciate its beauty and importance as well.

College Counseling

I have a knack for organization and always made the most appropriate school schedules for myself, my husband and my friends when we were in college. I love looking at a students' necessary credits and conflicts with job or personal life matched with the university's offered coursework and teaching options and choosing the perfect combination to help students succeed, graduate on time and receive all of their necessary courses.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have two years of experience teaching foreign language to 1st and 2nd graders in the private school setting. I also have two years of experience working in an afterschool care and tutoring program with students from Kindergarten through 6th grade.

English

In teaching speech and debate I found that many English concepts crossed over into my curriculum. Grammar, content, spelling and vocabulary were checked in the resumes and cover letters that my professional communication students wrote, handwriting was assessed on personal journal entries, and quizzes were often given over the comprehension of read materials. While I may not have taught a class called "English" in a classroom setting before, I certainly have applied many of its rules into the courses I have taught and feel completely capable to both teach and tutor in this area.

ESL/ESOL

I have experience with international students in many different forms. I have taught ESL students in the public school setting and have also dealt with international students working on their post-graduate degrees. I led a weekly conversation cluster with an organization called the "i-House" (i for international) in Bryan, TX. I taught the students, who were mainly of Asian or Hispanic background, grammar, vocabulary, basic interpersonal skills, American culture, and even humor.

Grammar

In teaching speech and debate I found that many English concepts crossed over into my curriculum. Grammar was checked in every document they turned in, from the more abstract assignments to the most professional, such as presentations and resumes/cover letters. While I may not have taught a class called "English" in a classroom setting before, I certainly have applied many of its rules including grammar into the courses I have taught and feel completely capable to both teach and tutor in this area.

Hard Of Hearing

I am qualified to teach the hearing impaired because I am fluent in American Sign Language. I have been working with the language since 1998 and have worked as a sign language interpreter in education, religious, medical and business settings since 2007. I have great knowledge of and respect for the Deaf community and would love the opportunity to work with any Deaf or hard of hearing who need tutoring.

Literature

I am a certified Literature tutor through the WyzAnt tutoring website and have a strong passion for reading and helping others appreciate the classics. I am also certified to tutor other areas of the English language such as grammar, spelling, vocabulary and proofreading and writing.

Proofreading

In my two years experience in public school education, I made each of my classes write multiple assignments varying from the professional (resume, cover letter) to the creative (journal from the perspective of a favorite movie character). This work with students on a frequent basis writing and rewriting plus my WyzAnt certification in this area along with grammar, vocabulary, spelling and others, I feel more than confident to tutor in the area of proofreading.

Public Speaking

I have two years of public school teaching experience on the high school level in public speaking. I have taught verbal, nonverbal and organizational skills that are necessary for public speaking. I have facilitated numerous projects for my students such as "Improve Your School" and "Bracelet Businesses" which were two persuasive speaking projects as well as "Show and Tell" and "How-To" speeches, which are examples of informative speaking. I also hold a Bachelor's degree in Communication from Texas A&M University.

Reading

I am a certified Reading tutor through the WyzAnt tutoring website and have a strong passion for it in many ways. I love literature and helping others appreciate the classics. I understand that many students have problems staying focused or understanding what they have read, and I am currently experimenting with using sign language to help memory and comprehension which I believe will increase student performance in reading tremendously.

Sign Language

I hold a Texas teacher certification for ASL EC-12 and am a certified BEI Basic interpreter in the state of Texas.

Spanish

My experience with Spanish is difficult to categorize. I have 4 years of experience taking Spanish, I have the experience of spending multiple weeks in Mexico to practice the language, and I have also had the pleasure of teaching Spanish on a volunteer basis at the 1st and 2nd grade level in a private school setting. I have a passion for foreign languages and feel that as Americans we do not place as much emphasis on learning more than just English as we should. However, I do want to let everyone here know that I do not feel comfortable tutoring adults in Spanish because I do not think I am suitable in that capacity. I feel more than confident to teach and tutor younger children or those taking their first few years of Spanish in high school, but beyond that, please do not seek me as a Spanish tutor. I want everyone who desires a good strong working knowledge of a foreign language to receive it, and I am just not sure if I am that person for the adults looking to learn Spanish out there.

Speech

I have two years of public school teaching experience on the high school level in public speaking, group, interpersonal, organizational and nonverbal communication, the communication process and mass media. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Communication with a minor in Film Studies from Texas A&M University.

Spelling

I have experience helping coach high school students in UIL competitive spelling. I am also experienced and knowledgeable in vocabulary, and these two subjects often go hand in hand.

Vocabulary

In teaching speech and debate, I found that many English concepts crossed over into my curriculum. Vocabulary became extremely important, for example, when writing debate cases. If you want to win a debate, you have to not only know what you are talking about, but sound like you know what you are talking about as well. Word choice, knowledge of vocabulary and understanding when it is appropriate to use certain words played distinct roles in writing cases for debate or pieces of legislation for student congress. In the public speeches that my students would give, I encouraged the use of higher vocabulary choices in order to sound more intelligent in their informative speeches and more worthwhile in their persuasive. I often modeled this behavior by using words just over their vocabulary level so they were not bored at my language but could also use context clues to understand what I had said. While I may not have taught a class called "English" in a classroom setting before, I certainly have applied many of its rules including grammar into the courses I have taught and feel completely capable to both teach and tutor in this area.

Writing

In my two years experience in public school education I made each of my classes write multiple assignments varying from the professional (resume, cover letter) to the creative (journal from the perspective of a favorite movie character). This work with students on a frequent basis writing and rewriting plus my WyzAnt certification in this area along with grammar, vocabulary, spelling and others, I feel more than confident to tutor in the area of writing.
