I am a certified K-12 teacher, have been teaching high school and middle school Spanish for a decade in Arizona, Colorado, Montana, and recently relocated to Texas. My last teaching assignment was in Colorado Springs at Harrison High; before that I was at an outstanding high school currently ranked fourth in the country by US News and World Report. My experience with Spanish goes back considerably further; although I was born in the UK, I moved to Chile at the age of ten and lived there until I was sixteen. I have lived or traveled in Peru, Argentina, and Mexico as an adult. I have worked professionally as a translator/interpreter, and live in a bilingual household, so Spanish is part of my everyday life. As a result of speaking Spanish most of my life and having learned through immersion, I have native-level proficiency. However, I also understand the needs and frustrations of second-language learners, having been in that position myself (I minored in French). I also have experience teaching English and ESL in a variety of settings from school-age to adult.

Not only have I been vetted and cleared for certification in AZ, CO, MT and NM, I have also passed a background check with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). That clearance allows me to teach children in the foster-care system as an approved tutor.

I pride myself on employing a variety of approaches for each concept to ensure the student thoroughly understands and can use the material, while still striving to keep my lessons engaging. I once worked as a substitute teacher in the Bozeman School District for six months; my last review by a high school student at BHS: "I learned more from you in two days than in the whole semester."

I look forward to meeting the unique needs of your student.

Excellent Tutor — The study tips and suggestions that Nicola has given to my daughter has brought her confidence up greatly. Her French went up two grades. Nicola comes prepared to each session by researching the lesson when given information prior to meeting. Also, she goes over class lesson corrections and reteaches when necessary. She is very hands on and teaches to the student's level and understanding. She's v ...
