Currently I am not taking any more tutoring clients due to the heavy work load I have for my own daughter. I do apologize for the inconvenience and hope to pick back up with tutoring again soon.

The more you read the more you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go- by Dr. Suess - one of my favorite children's authors! Reading is a passion of mine and I enjoy helping children discover the love of reading. I am a former public elementary education teacher. I taught for twelve years in all the elementary grade levels either in a classroom or as a tutor. The last two years, I was a reading specialist working closely with the teachers, providing staff development and helping teach the reading curriculum. I have my master's in advanced literacy, and do my best to stay current with the educational trends.

In my personal life I am happily married and have two precious daughters. Since I am a stay at home mom, I usually tutor in my home as my girls work quietly on their studies. I do homeschool my oldest daughter part time so we have a special area in our living room that we use as "our classroom." I can also meet at a library or another place that is relatively close to our home.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child and working together to help them become a successful reader/student.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified elementary education teacher with twelve years of teaching experience. I got my bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and my masters in education (reading) from Concordia University. I have been a classroom teacher in kindergarten, second and third and have tutored in K-6th grade. I enjoy working with young students and seeing the excitement when they finally "get it!" I find that very rewarding!

Phonics

As a former reading specialist, I firmly believe that understanding the phonics/sounds component of reading helps many children build the skills needed to become better readers. In order to understand the sounds, blends and patterns in words, children need to know how that helps them become better readers and why it is important in learning to reading. By using many forms of phonics lessons, I can help primary readers and many developing readers recognize the patters in words and in time help them read more fluently.

Reading

Reading plays a critical role in all the subject areas. If a child is struggling with reading, many times they will struggle in other areas as well. As a child, I struggled with reading myself and so I can sympathize with struggling readers. When I went to college to become a teacher I minored in reading and then later went to get my master's in advanced literacy in order to help those children that need that extra encouragement to become a better reader. There are many components of reading and it can be overwhelming to determine what area your child is struggling with; I would love to help and do my best to get them back where they need to be.

Study Skills

Study skills are very valuable skills to not only learn and know in school, but in life as well. In order to get a job many times we must take a test. In order to help your child pass any assessment including: STAAR, benchmarks, unit test or teacher made tests, there are certain "tools" your child can use to help him/her when taking a test or any form of assessment. When test session comes around, many times anxiety and fear also creeps in and many children worry about taking the test. There are also things to learn to help children relax and ease their nerves before, during and after taking a test.
