I have and currently teach children with special needs for 12 years. I worked in the MHMR field as a case manager for 10 years prior to getting certified as a special education teacher. My belief is that all children can learn and should learn as much as they possibly can in order to be part of society. These lessons should always include learning good social skills so they do not stand out in the classroom or in public. Part of my position requires that we tutor students that are struggling, I have tutored many types of students in the 12 years I have taught. I get to know a student and try to figure out the best way they learn. As most of us are, we have different ways of learning, some may be visual, some may be tactile, some may be verbal. It is our job as teachers to assist them in figuring out the best way they learn and provide that method as their primary learning style supplemented by the others.
