I have tutored and taught the English/Verbal sections of the ACT, SAT, GRE, and GMAT. I have tutored all aspects of it, ranging from mechanics, with focus on punctuation and sentence structure, to rhetoric, with focus on conciseness and paragraph structure.

I cannot guarantee success, but many of my past students who have worked with me on a consistent basis (generally three weeks or more) have achieved surprisingly high scores in either their SAT or ACT math sections. I am familiar with the contents, so I can tell you what types of problems you can expect and the frequency with which they come up. I can also show you different ways of tackling each problem and let you decide which ones work best for you.

In addition to taking College Algebra, I have also studied and tutored higher level related mathematics such as Linear Algebra and Modern (Abstract) Algebra. It is therefore a subject with which I am very comfortable and proficient, and more importantly, students gravitate towards my style of teaching it and are able to understand it much better.

I have taken a semester of Biostatistics and have also helped several students with it. Admittedly, I am not that proficient in the biological aspects of it, but I am very much proficient in its statistical aspects and I have tutored a number of Applied Statistics courses.

I have taken over two years of programming in Pascal and a year of programming in C. The proverbial theory is that once you've learned one programming language, learning a second one is trivial. I don't fully subscribe to this theory, but C and Pascal are so similar in structure and syntax that it feels as though I've taken over three years of programming in both. It's not something I tutor regularly, but it's something I feel very comfortable teaching and explaining because of the amount of time I personally spend dabbling and playing around with these languages.

I took a Calculus class in high school, majored in Math in college where I helped other students who struggled. So, unofficially, I guess I can say I've been tutoring this class for a long time. Officially, I've been tutoring it for over three years now. I've tutored both the engineering and business sections of this class, and having worked with over hundreds of students and encountered all sorts of issues from them, I am now fairly confident in diagnosing weaknesses very quickly and prescribing the right dose of teaching and encouragement they need to get the grades they want.

I have tutored general chemistry I and II at the undergraduate level and helped students with their Mastering Chemistry online assignments. I have also worked with high school students in both their class work and standardized exam preparation, which includes AP Chemistry and SAT Chemistry subject tests. My strength lies in explaining concepts in rather non-technical language for students to better relate to and understand.

Differential Equations is a subject I've tutored for over three years now. I'm extremely comfortable with it because as a Physics minor most of the physics problems I've had to solve required differential equations. I can help you out with both ordinary and partial differential equations of first, second, and even higher orders. I am also adept with Laplace transform, matrix method, and series solutions of differential equations.

I have taken a semester of Discrete Mathematics and received an A in it. I have also tutored it for over a year. With the exception of Operations Research and Information Theory, I am very comfortable and adept at teaching many of the topics covered in a typical Discrete Mathematics course, from Probability, Set Theory, and Number Theory, to Geometry, Topology and Finite-Difference Calculus.

I am not extremely fluent at speaking French, but I'm very proficient at reading and writing at a high level in French, and at teaching French grammar.

I have tutored for the GED before. I haven't tutored it for as long as I have tutored GRE, GMAT, SAT, and ACT. My experience is therefore not as broad in it, however, there are sections of it I can really help you with: social studies, sciences, and mathematics.

Geometry, like Algebra and Trigonometry, is one of the base subjects for the higher level math courses. As a math major, I had to be very grounded in these subjects. As a result, I am very comfortable and confident in not only tutoring them but doing so at a level and style that students can readily follow and understand.

I was also instructor for the GMAT (along with the GRE) at Kaplan. The GMAT is slightly different format-wise and scoring-wise from the GRE, but the underlying concepts (or basic tricks) needed for mastering it are basically the same as that of the gre. I know the typical problems students run into with these exams so I know what to it takes to correct them. For the GMAT and GRE, timing is always crucial, so what I try to do is show my students the quickest way(s) to solve (or answer) problems, as well as techniques and strategies they can use if they're ever in a position where they're running out of time.

I have tutored grammar at different levels and for different languages. I have taught grammar for SAT and ACT prep courses as well as for the GMAT and GRE. I have also tutored it for Latin, English and French.

This is a game I'd love to show you how to play. Yes, you heard me right, a game! I've worked with Kaplan as a GRE instuructor for over three years and in that time I've come to realize mastering the GRE doesn't really require intelligence (of course it certainly helps if you have it); it requires you to know the simple rules and tricks of the game. You simply need to understand the mindset of the test makers, and years of experience have taught me how to do exactly that. I can show you a mix of strategies and tricks that can get you in the score range you want (after putting them into much practice, of course, I'm no magician!), and you will find out in a few instances how you can even get an answer correct without having the slightest clue in the first place. To work at Kaplan, I had to score over 90th percentile in both the math and verbal sections, so with these credentials, I'm certain I can help you out.

I studied Latin at Boston Latin School, a high school that emphasized a strong balance between classical studies and the mathematics and sciences. It was a mandatory and major part of the curriculum and I had to take it for four years, but I'm particularly glad that I did because it's broadened my perspective in life and instilled in me a passion for learning languages. While in high school, I also got a perfect score in the National Latin Exam and I still manage to keep up with it.

Physics is a course I particularly enjoy tutoring. The biggest problem I've noticed with students who come to me for Physics is a lack of firm grasp on its very basic and fundamental concepts. Physics is not like Calculus: you can't just get by with knowing a few techniques of integration and differentiation; you really have to be well grounded in the most basic concepts, you have to start from the very root of it. I tend to have a lot of Physics students who are good in Math but terrible in Physics because they either never had the strong foundation in the basic principles of Physics or they just simply felt it was rather easy or not so important when they were covering it. I generally like to get my physics students early in their course because then I can really impress upon them these fundamentals without having to take them back to memory lane.

Having taken, as well as tutored, both College Algebra and Linear Algebra, I am fairly adept at explaining the concepts of Prealgebra at a level students can readily grasp.

I've studied and taught Calculus I (differentiation techniques), Calculus II (Integration techniques), Calculus III (multi-variable extension), and Differential Equations; and Precalculus is a prerequisite for all of these, so I am both confident and adept at explaining its concepts at a level that students can readily understand.

I've taken Probability and I've tutored it for over three years. I have also passed actuarial exams that require a high level of probability, so it is a subject with which I am both comfortable and proficient.

Admittedly, teaching/tutoring Vocabulary is something I find challenging. Personally, I have a good memory and it's easy for me to learn new words, but just because I'm good at something doesn't make me good at teaching it. Different people have different ways of learning, therefore the best I can do is go from experience and show you which methods have worked for me, and which ones have worked for students with whom I've worked. I can show you mnemonic techniques I find successful and recommend them based on their relative frequency success rate.
