Hi my name is Kara. I was an assistant teacher for The Art Institute of Dallas for a little over two years. I taught the labs that were held the last two hours of classes. The classes I assisted in included Intro to Video, where I ran labs on just how to use the equipment and the basics of shooting. This ranged anywhere from how to properly frame shot to moving masters. I also taught the basic knowledge of the video production, everything from the terms to what each position does on sets, in the news, and even on the web. I also taught basic editing skills and how to properly use Final Cut Pro and some Avid. I was able to assist in upper level advanced classes, teaching marketing skills and really getting into what the business is and how it all works. I like to come up with fun projects and activities that really help students to get involved in the process of film making. It's easier when you can have them do hands-on work as well as written. For example, I would have them do a basic short lesson on proper framing, but then have them write a small paper on why it's the correct way and why was it effective. I like to emphasize that you can't simply "do." It's important to know why you are doing it. I did a lot of one-on-one tutoring during after hours. It was really important to me that the student really understand the lessons and be able to take the skills and knowledge away from each class. I have also done internships where I shadowed producers and editors and worked freelance as a videographer and audio tech in the industry. I'm skilled in Final Cut Pro, Avid, Photoshop, basic Motion Graphics, DVD Studio Pro & Pro-Tools.
