I've been teaching English as a full-time, certified teacher for 7 years. I've worked in charter schools, private schools, and alternative education sites. My bachelor's degree is in English literature, and I also hold a master's degree in secondary education. I'm currently working on an education specialist's degree in reading education. I'm also a teacher consultant for the National Writing Project.
I am not your ordinary homework helper. I have the training and expertise to properly diagnose a student's reading or writing issues, plan precisely tailored instruction for remediating those needs, and implement engaging instruction and inquiry opportunities. I truly love literature, language, words, and writing, and I plan to share my enthusiasm with your child. My specialty is finding great matches between reluctant readers and excellent books. If a teacher has expressed concern with your child's work knowledge, fluency, comprehension, or writing mechanics, and you're not sure what to do, I can help. If teachers have not been helpful with identifying or communicating why your child struggles, I can help. If your child seems bored in class and needs some one-on-one challenge, I can help.
