I have a passion for math and music, and I enjoy helping others learn and work through challenges. I have tutored students in middle-school math, algebra, and flute. I completed a year of the UTeach program, which included student teaching in 5th and 8th grade math. I am very patient and easy-going, and can adapt to a variety of learning styles. In tutoring math, I walk through problems systematically and reinforce the fundamental concepts that the student can apply to similar problems. I prefer regular sessions so that I can observe a student's learning style and adapt accordingly. I have always worked very hard in my courses, and I expect my students to do the same.
I am currently a senior mathematics major at UT Dallas with a cumulative GPA of 3.76. I completed advanced math courses in high school, culminating with AP Calculus and AP Statistics. I achieved a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam and a 4 on the AP Statistics exam. During my first three years of college, I have completed Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Theoretical Concepts of Calculus, Abstract Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Probability, two semesters of calculus-based Physics, and two semesters of Computer Science. I have tutored my younger siblings and friends in math for years, and I love seeing others succeed.
In addition to math, I also teach flute. I have been playing the flute for almost seven years. I currently play in the UTD Wind Ensemble and have performed at several church and community functions. While at Marcus High School, I earned a spot in the Wind Symphony during my freshman year. I won the "Outstanding Soloist" award three different years and I was an alternate for the All-State band in 2009. I also performed at The Midwest Clinic in 2007. I participated in the marching band, which won the Texas UIL 5A State Championship in 2006 and 2008. I prefer to help intermediate level flutists prepare for auditions and concerts.
I mainly tutor in the Richardson area during the school year, but I am available for summer tutoring in Flower Mound.
I have lived in Houston, Dallas, and Charlotte, NC. My parents home schooled me through the seventh grade. Then I attended public school at Downing Middle School and Marcus High School in Flower Mound. For many years, I taught children's Sunday school at my church. In addition to math and flute, I also enjoy running every morning.
