I have taught for 17 years in public and private schools. Most of my experience is in the field of English Language Arts, although I have also taught German, pre-Algebra, and Algebra I. I received my undergraduate degree in English and German from Southern Methodist University, and I completed my master's degree in Education Administration at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. I hold teaching certificates from the state of Texas in Secondary English (6-12) and English Language Arts and Reading (4-8). I have passed the teaching examination for certification in German, and if I return to a German classroom, I will add that certification to my portfolio.
I believe that every student is different, which means that no two tutoring experiences are going to be the same. My first tutoring session is more diagnostic in nature, which means I use a basic reading and writing assessment (for English students) or a basic math assessment (for math students) to find out each student's particular areas of need. After the end of the first tutoring session, I develop an initial plan for the first month going forward, and then we revisit that plan each month. I communicate with the parents between tutoring sessions to monitor classroom performance and additional areas of need. My track record of success with both English and math students is excellent, and I look forward to continuing that with new clients.
