Hello, out there! I am a honors High School graduate looking to help tutor kids over the summer.
I specialize in teaching 6th grade through 10th grade math. I have had several tutoring opportunities during the school year and also, I have been an assistant teacher at Tsai's Math. Other experiences that I have include tutoring the youth section at church and contributing to the Karen Dillards College Prep study sessions. I really enjoy teaching and interacting with young learners, and I do everything I can to make sure the student is keeping up with my explanations.
When tutoring, my first approach is to ask if the student has a preference on where to start. If so, I begin there and then not only explain the topic, but also relate it other topics that will be encountered in the future. By explaining the topic first hand, the student is allowed to understand what is happening inside the problem. The student is able to understand what the numbers or variables mean and where they come from. I believe this is essential when teaching a subject such as math because it sets a solid foundation for other cumulative math courses. For my students, I provide practice problems. I will work step by step to ensure a full understanding, and then ask the student to work another similar problem, explaining the steps along the way. In this method, the student will have a sufficient amount of practice and understanding, which he/she can use to learn other math concepts in the future.
I can also work from text books/work books if the parents wish it.
My hours are very flexible and I am willing to work all summer.
Feel free to message me here with any questions or concerns!
