If you are looking for a special needs tutor who thoroughly understands the importance of compassion, patience, kindness, & a high level of professionalism I would like an opportunity to help your child.
I have successfully served as a special educator at all grade levels (from Pre-K) for 32 years. My most recent long term teaching job was as a teacher of elementary students with multiple cognitive & physical disabilities in Dallas, TX. (I was one of 1750 teachers who were part of a major reduction in force the last two years)
Prior to that I taught autistic and educable mentally disabled students, primarily at South San Antonio ISD.
My wife, Nancy is a retired educator, my daughter has vast experience in Speech/Language Pathology, and my son is a school district software installer in San Antonio. (We have a special needs child with autism in our extended family which gives me a better insight into the unique concerns of all family members.)
I am available within a 25-30 radius of the Plano area & prefer teaching in the student's home or at a local library. I have friends & family ranging from northern Collin County to the Park Cities. While at Dallas ISD I also served as a Dallas Teacher Ambassador in the "good old days" when many school districts needed specialized teachers.
I sincerely believe that a multiple approach must be used in teaching, including emphasis on language and technology skills. Augmentative communication and using multiple types of teaching resources may ensure a better rate of student improvement.
Other areas of strengths would be my service as a math & language tutor prior to moving to Dallas-Fort Worth area. Ten years of coaching Special Olympics as well as 2 years as a Debate/Public Speaking Coach.
I respect the privacy concerns of parents and child and also maintain a cooperative and informative relationship with parents.
Continual progress updates to parents and authorized guardians gives everyone an assurance the child is working towards maximum potential.
