While I am not military, I have extensive experience in standardized exam preparation and test taking skills. I also really enjoy the arithmetic reasoning section which many people have difficulty with. I am a semi-retired physician and scientist who enjoys teaching and I am certified to teach all sections of the ACT and SAT tests.
I am qualified to teach most of the tested AFOQT components - all of the basic science, math, English amd Table sections. I have identified several review books and websites to help with the mechanical aptitude sections such as block counting, rotated blocks and hidden figures. If significant review is needed on aviation information and instrument reading beyond what is available in both the review books and websites, I have a private pilot that would be able to teach a special review session.
Need to get a specific score to get into the military branch of your choice? Let me help you with the core AFQT section. In addition to reviewing the material that you need to know on the test, we will also review approaches to problem solving. This will speed up your test taking pace, enabling you to spend more time working through the difficult problems. Need a specific line score, we can go through the spatial resolution and mechanical/engineering subtests. Rate is usually discounted to $30/hr if we can meet in the Pearland area. Slightly more if travel needed. Groups rates available.
I am experienced in teaching many different age groups for placement and board exams. The COOP and HSPT exams are similar to many other placement exams. They have a greater emphasis on logic and analytical questions than other exams which are my strongest sections. When I took the PSAT exam, I scored a perfect 800 and received a National Merit Scholarship. I try to use methods that make learning more fun including flash cards that can be used in a competitive game in a group setting, using different free or low cost apps on a smart phone, and vocabulary rock - a series of rock songs with the lyrics written to increase vocabulary.
I am a physician who is Board Certified in Clinical Genetics. I also have a PhD Biochemistry and have engaged in Molecular Biology/Genetic research for more than two decades. I have coauthored papers on Clinical Presentations of Genetic defects and research papers in genetics. I was an Assistant Professor with Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Molecular and Clinical Genetics for five years.
I have successfully passed the MCAT's with a score high enough to get interviews at almost all of the top medical schools for an MD PhD position. While that was some time ago, I have had to successfully complete many other standardized tests including Medical Boards Part 1, 2, 3, and specialty medical boards in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics. I have successfully tutored many individuals who were at risk of not passing their board exams. I can advise on exam taking strategies and help you with a study program that will enable you to achieve a score that reflects your abilities.
I am a semi-retired physician and scientist. I have completed graduate level microbiology classes in addition to passing the microbiology sections on medical board exams. My PhD is in Biochemistry with research involving cell culture and cloning technologies that involve the understanding and application of microbiology principles.
I am a semi-retired physician scientist (MD with board certification in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics, and PhD in Biochemistry) who enjoys teaching and has a natural talent in taking and teaching board certification exams. There is a significant amount of content overlap between the sections of the nursing board exams and the medical board exams. For many of the concepts I can provide real-life examples. The format of the computer adapted testing used by the NCLEX exams takes some additional testing strategies and can be very unsettling the first time. I have always had great respect for the nurses that I have worked with. I find satisfaction in helping talented medical professional students who have problem with standardized exams, be able to pass their exams so they can be evaluated based on their clinical skills rather than their test taking abilities.
I received A's in organic chemistry in college and scored well on my MCAT exam. I am a semi-retired physician scientist (MD - Board certified in Clinical Genetics and Pediatrics and PhD in Biochemistry). My clinical work as a Pediatric Geneticist applies organic chemistry to patient care during the diagnosis and treatment of patients with metabolic defects while my research applies organic chemistry at the molecular level. In addition to being able to teach organic chemistry, I have the advantage of being able to provide real life examples of why we need to understand organic chemistry.
I am a semi-retired physician (Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics)and scientist (PhD in Biochemistry). I have a passed a graduate level pharmacology course in addition to passing Medical Board exams which contain sections on pharmacology. I have a special interest in pharmacogenetics and exploring how CYP enzyme variability in the population needs to be accounted for when prescribing medication.
The TEAS test is similar to other college entrance exams with several important differences. The newest version TEAS V contains more cell biology and genetics and on science in general than previous versions. As a PhD in biochemistry and an MD specializing in clinical genetics I have a great deal of experience in this area. The life sciences test on major organ systems which I am able to teach with a clinical perspective. The math has general concepts but also a section of conversion of measurements which are necessary for pharmacology. The English section has grammar, spelling, word definition and passage work similar to the ACT and SAT exams but also contains.additional sections on label reading and interpretation of other medically relevant formats. The math section has both word problems and logic problems which are two of my strongest areas when teaching exam prep.
My skills in entrance and board exam preparation in combination with my own training as a physician, clinical genetics, and biochemistry PhD with a molecular biology research focus makes me an ideal tutor for the TEAS V exam.
