Experienced Elementary School Teacher tutors in the 3 R's

I am a certified teacher. I have twelve years teaching experience in grades Pre-K, Kindergarten, and first grade. I love working with children, and have alot of patience. I have sevaral ideas and activites that I use to help children develop their skill in the subject areas they are having difficulty with.

At the beginning of the tutoring session, I will determine the needs of the student, and tailor my tutoring lessons to the the student's particular needs. I work one on one with each student. I will help the student develop skills and understanding in the subjects of reading, language, spelling, and math. I will use various teaching methods and activities to help the student develop an understanding of the concepts and skills I will be teaching. I will evaluate the student to determine if he/she has mastered the concept which I have been teaching.

Vocabulary

I can help the student learn grade level vocabulary words, and help them learn the meanings of the words. This will enable the student to read and understand the reading passages and stories they will assigned in the classroom.

Grammar

I can help the student learn the rules of grammar and punctuation. I will help the student learn how to apply these rules in his/her writing.

Reading

I am able to teach reading comprehension, reading vocabulary, beginning reading skills, and phonics.

English

In teaching English, I would strive to help the student develop skills in grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and paragraph writing. I would use different strategies to help students learn these skills. If a student reteaching of a sill, I would reteach the skill to the student. I would work at a pace suitable for the student. I use a lot of positive reinforcement.

Proofreading

When teaching students to proofread, I would teach them the skills they need to correct written work. I would use strategies that would help them develop the skills and give them the practice they need to become adept at proofreading written work. Students would learn to use correct punctuation, grammar and sentence structure in their writing.

Spelling

I can teach the student how to spell words on their grade level and the basic rules needed when learning to spell new words.

Elementary Math

In teaching elementary math to students, I would use many strategies and techniques to help the student develop his/her math skills. I would introduce the concept to be taught, and use many examples to help the student learn the concept.
