I am originally from Calcutta, India but I have been a US resident for over 25 years. I was an ambitious student and always in the top 5% of my class. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Calcutta University in 1983, ranking first among chemistry majors. Subsequently,, I pursued graduate work in mechanistic organic chemistry and received my Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. I spent several years in Industry and 3+ years in different universities (Wilkes, Temple Univ, PENN) mainly teaching sophomore level organic chemistry (lab and lecture) I am very good at chemistry, especially mechanisms and equally good with undergraduate level Physics (I and II) as well.
Even though my native language is not English, I have good oral and written communication skills. I regularly help students over the Internet.
My advice to students: "there is no substitute for hard work." However, attack problems through understanding and not memorization. Confidence can ONLY be achieved by solving many problems before exams.
In truth, high grades on a test are just high grades on a test. Success in life lies in critical thinking skills, creativity, passion and motivation.
