I am a Ph.D. who has taught at both secondary and college levels. I was a double major in American history and English, have done extensive writing, and have a background in professional editing and proofreading. My work can be found in publications such as the Handbook of Texas, historical journals, and the biographical work Profiles in Power. I am currently available as a tutor and contracted editor or proofreader.
My tutoring career began in 1985 at Texas Christian University, where I worked with athletes and students with special challenges. My goal is always to prove that history and English can be exciting subjects when approached with the right focus and enthusiasm. Who isn't fascinated by Hamlet--a mass murderer who is obsessed with his mother? Did you know that President William Howard Taft was so obese that he became lodged in the White House bath tub and had to be forcibly removed? Vice-President Aaron Burr was wanted for murdering a former Secretary of State! Who really discovered America? Are all of my commas in the right place? What are single quotes? Have you ever left a participle dangling in public? People do it all the time, but it’s still incorrect.
Learning to think, not memorize, is the key to every educational victory. Each student has a different learning style, and I can help you find yours. Let me share my love of my specializations, and of thinking, with you. You will quickly find that my excitement is contagious--and you won't even get a headache.
