I've always had a love for learning. I graduated in the top 5% of my high-school graduating class and magna cum laude from Baylor University, so I know how much dedication and hard work can pay off. I enjoy helping others learn or understand something. I especially love seeing the look in someone's eyes when he or she finally understands something that has been difficult for him or her. Growing up, I helped classmates with understanding concepts with which they had problems.
I specialize in tutoring music subjects, math (except for Geometry), and English. Because I have been a classical musician since I was 4 years old, I have over 30 years of school and real-world experience with violin and viola performance, music theory, music history, ear training, and other music subjects. I've also always had a love for English, and my dad has always made it a point to make sure that I know proper grammar, vocabulary, etc. In college, I almost double-majored in music and math because I've never had a difficult time with math (except for Geometry). Every student has a different learning style -- some learn by doing, others by seeing, others by hearing, and others by a combination of these. I adapt my tutoring to best suit the student. I always like to challenge students without overwhelming them.
I am always looking to improve, so I appreciate any feedback you can give me. I will also provide parents (or students) with updates after every session.
I tutor mostly at students' homes, but some students come to me at the Sienna Library. Rates may be higher depending on driving distance from my home to yours. I just ask that wherever we meet for the tutoring session is a quiet, comfortable place for studying. I'm looking forward to meeting you and helping you succeed! I've always had a love for learning. Michele has been tutoring my daughter in Algebra 2 and occasionally physics for the past few months and we have seen her grade in both class improve by a full letter grade. She now understands the material better and is more confident in her ability to be successful. Michele is patient and knowledgeable. She is easy to reach by text and is flexible with occasional schedule changes. She has been just what we needed this school year and I would highly recommend her as a tutor.
Michelle replied to every email in a timely manner, which is very important for me. She told me in advance if she can do it, when she can get things back to me and how long it's gonna take. She understood my specific needs, confirmed it with me and edited my paper in the way I asked for. She demonstrated great communication and interpersonal skills via email. She followed up with me when I didn't send her my paper on time. She could also be flexible about the rate, depending on the type of services she provided. I would highly recommend her to other students.
My son told me that you are very smart and he was really excited and learned the concepts you were teaching him. In his words, "She breaks it down very simply."
9/22/14: My son left this tutoring session with confidence that he will pass the big algebra test that is coming up.
Michele has been very helpful in working with my student. She has a balanced way of asking questions to get the student to understand what they are missing. My student really appreciates her style of tutoring vs. just telling. I would highly recommend her.
Michele is the best tutor. She knows exactly what to do to help me. Simply amazing. I am very pleased.
Michele was very prepared, always on time, and very patient. I felt very good with what she brought to the table. Both my son and I were very appreciative. I would recommend her.
Michele comes so prepared. She comes with worksheets for my son to go over afterwards. I like how comfortable she makes my son feel. We are enjoying her tutoring.
Michelle was prepared and researched the information needed. She was punctual and enthusiastic about the subject which created a good learning experience.
My son is very comfortable with her. She seems to have good teaching ability. She brings material that helps improve required skills for the student.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a musician for most of my life. In high school and college, I had to take ear training courses, and I always got an A. As a violin and viola teacher, I have my students use ear training all the time in their lessons. As a performing musician, I have to use my ear training skills on a daily basis.
I have been a musician since I started playing violin when I was four years old. I've taught church choir classes, grou`p violin classes, and private violin and viola lessons. I know all sides of music -- from music theory and ear training, to music history, to playing stringed instruments, and more.
I have been a musician for over 30 years. During that time, I've taken many music history courses (high school and college) and always done very well. While taking those courses, I led study groups for my peers and helped them if they needed help.
I have been a musician for most of my life. In high school and college, I had to take sight-singing courses, and I always got an A. As a violin and viola player who sight-reads music all the time, sight-singing comes very easily to me, and I enjoy teaching it.
I have been playing violin since I was four years old and viola since I was 10. Even though I turned my focus to viola when I was 12, I continued to play violin. I have both bachelor's and master's of music degrees in viola performance. I have taught violin and viola private lessons for over 10 years, and I perform regularly in orchestras in Lake Charles and Shreveport, Louisiana.
