I am a retired chemical engineer. I graduated from Rice with two Bachelor's degrees in Chemical Engineering. I am a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. My career was spent in the engineering design of chemical processes to obtain the best plant process and plant design, and then designing, building, and operating this plant.
I have taught chemistry, physics, and chemical process technology at Alvin Community College for 6 years, and I currently also tutor High School students. My strongest areas are chemistry and math up through precalculus. I will also tutor freshman/sophomore college students in these areas.
My tutoring method tends to be old school and emphasizes learning by doing. In the areas where the student is having problems, I will demonstrate how to do the work, let them attempt it on another example, and then check the student's work. If he/she gets it right, we go on to the next topic. If not, I show him/her what was done wrong, and have the student work another example.
