I have six years' experience teaching at the middle school level, and I am certified in the following areas: Generalist 4-8, English Language Arts 8-12, and Special Education K-12. I have five years' experience teaching sixth grade reading, and I currently tutor grades 3-12.

English

In addition to a B.A. and an M.A. in English, I am an experienced middle school English teacher. I am also certified to teach high school English, and currently tutor several students in grades 3-12. I have attended the Plano Writing Leadership Academy twice, and I've helped write language arts curriculum.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught several ESL/ESOL students in the general education classroom. I have also taught small groups of ELLs on Saturday mornings in order to help them be more successful on the reading and math TAKS.

SAT Writing

I have a Master's degree in English, and consistently earned high grades on my essays. I am currently tutoring several students in SAT writing.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been successfully tutoring incoming fourth graders for several months now. I also have one year of classroom experience teaching middle school students who functioned cognitively at an early elementary school level.

Phonics

As a special education teacher in McKinney, I taught phonics and other beginning reading skills to students with special needs. I became highly skilled at adapting lessons for different age/grade levels. My students studied phonics both in isolation and in the context of children's literature.
