I am well-qualified in teaching writing, grammar, and reading, with a Master's degree in English, plus 48 hours toward a doctorate. I taught English in high school for 18 years and also taught over 6 years on the college level. With a second Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling, I was an elementary-school counselor for 6 years, during which time I tutored young children. One of my strengths is establishing rapport, which I have done with all ages, from pre-K through adults. Throughout my career, my goal has always been to help people.

Vocabulary

I greatly increased my own vocabulary by becoming an avid reader, by taking Latin in high school and linguistics in college, and by becoming a lover of words. The source of much of my own writing and my students' writing has been literature. Most of my semester hours on the graduate level were in American and British literature, and I taught high-school students the skills of analyzing literature. Phonics

While working on a graduate degree in English, I took and excelled in 12 hours of Linguistics. I learned the phonetic alphabet and also the rules of spelling and pronunciation, which led to my being skilled in helping students sound out new words.

College Counseling

I have a master's degree in Education/Guidance and Counseling and 6 years experience as a counselor. In addition, I also have a master's degree in English.
