ADD/ADHD
I work in a high school special education classroom. I have experience teaching students with ADD/ADHD. I passed the state certification exam in special education which includes working with ADD/ADHD students.
Algebra 1
I enjoy teaching math to young people and am Texas certified in mathematics (grades 4-8). In college I tutored gifted third graders, but I am most comfortable tutoring middle school and high school students in math concepts, prealgebra, algebra and geometry.
From elementary school through college I earned an A grade in every math class. I was valedictorian of my 1300-person high school class. I will share my secrets for success and my love of math so your child will succeed.
American History
I will make the past come alive for your student. I received a score of 5 on the AP American History test in high school and am passionate about students understanding the history of our country. Studying history can be fun and is relevant for today.
Aspergers
I work in a high school special education classroom and passed the state teacher certification test in special education. Several of my students with whom I work display symptoms of Aspergers. I am adept at helping Aspergers students be successful in the classroom.
Autism
I work in a special education life skills classroom that includes many autistic students. I passed the state teacher certification test in special education.
Bible Studies
Fourteen years as an AWANA leader teaching kindergarten through sixth grade. Fluent in Old and New Testament doctrine, basics of the faith, and teaching verse memorization.
Biology
In college I majored in health science and was required to take biology, physiology, anatomy and microbiology. From elementary school through college I earned an A grade in every science class I took. I was a high school valedictorian at a large California high school and tutored other college students when I was in college. I will help your student excel in biology.
Criminal Justice
I was a police officer in California for 30 years. I retired as a lieutenant in 2008. I taught many crime prevention and community courses during my career and was both a training officer and a training supervisor at various times in my career.
Elementary (K-6th)
As a substitute teacher for three semesters I taught in several elementary schools. Also the state certification test in special education includes sections on reading, grammar and math for elementary through middle school.
Elementary Math

General Music
I played trumpet for 25 years in school, church and community bands and orchestras. I sang in choirs and small groups for thirty years. I directed a small church choir and gave some voice lessons.

Logic
In college I took logic courses and did extremely well. I tutored other students in my classes.
Music Theory
I learned music theory the old fashioned way, by using it in my daily musical activities. Twenty-five years of trumpet playing and thirty years of singing in chorales, small groups and solos taught me the essentials of music theory, and I would like to share my knowledge and experience with you.
Nutrition
I possess a health science degree and passed the state teacher certification exam in health.
Photography
I have extensive experience in 35mm, medium format and digital landscape and portrait photography. I was taught by my father, a professional photographer in the 1940s and 1950s.
Physiology
I majored in Health Science in college and took anatomy, physiology and several other science courses. I can work with you to make physiology understandable and enjoyable.
Prealgebra
I enjoy teaching math to young people and am certified in Texas for mathematics (grades 4-8). In college I tutored gifted third graders, but I am most comfortable tutoring middle school students as they transition from arithmetic to more complicated and abstract math concepts.
From elementary school through college I earned an A grade in every math class and I will help your child do so as well.
Public Speaking
As a police officer I taught many school and community classes and spoke in front of groups of all sizes and ages. I also performed as a singer in plays and concerts.
Reading
Reading is not limited to English Language Arts courses; it is a core requirement of every course. I will help your child develop both reading fluency and reading comprehension by breaking down stories, paragraphs and sentences to understand their meaning. Reading does not need to intimidate your child!
Religion
I took comparative religion courses in college and currently teach children in AWANA (a Bible memorization program for children and youth). I have read extensively on world religions and cults.
Special Needs
I work as a special education life skills aide at Lewisville High School. Previously I was a substitute teacher specializing in special education classes. I passed the state certification test to teach special education.
Spelling
Spelling can be frustrating for those students that experience difficulty in this critical skill. Besides being an excellent speller myself, I have tutored young people in spelling since my college days. I find it essential to not only teach the rules and exceptions related to spelling, but to create a supportive environment which breeds success.
Study Skills
I worked as a substitute teacher many times for a middle school study skills class. In addition I am very organized in my teaching and studying.
Tennis
I played both singles and doubles tennis since high school and competed as recently as 2011. I taught friends and family.
Trumpet
I played trumpet for 25 years in school, community and church groups. I played professionally in weddings and for parties.
Vocabulary
Having an age appropriate vocabulary in written and oral communication is critical to success in school and in life. I find it critical to not only teach the essentials of vocabulary building but to create a fun and supportive environment which breeds success. I currently work at Lewisville High School and am in my third year of public school educating. I have previous experience tutoring elementary students in vocabulary and spelling. I work with all ages.
World History
I will make the past come alive for your student. I am passionate about students understanding the history of our planet and learning how the past has shaped the present. Studying history can be fun and is relevant for today in understanding politics, conflicts, wars, and alliances.
