In the 4th grade, I took to arithmetic like a fish takes to water. In the 5th grade, I began teaching myself algebra.
In high school, I tutored many of my classmates in algebra, trigonometry, physics and chemistry. I understood that not everyone could find these subjects as easy as I did, but I learned how to LISTEN -- to listen to them struggling to explain why they found this problem or that concept hard -- and to find just the right explanation they needed to achieve understanding.
In college, I got a degree in classical Physics with a minor in mathematics. I often tutored other students in my dorm, not merely to "do" Physics and Calculus, but to "think" in Physics and Calculus. After college, I had a 35 year career as an engineer, computer programmer, mathematical analyst and technical writer.
For those requesting computer skill tutoring, I have experience in all aspects of programming, from the design of code and data structures, to coding and maintenance. The proper attitude and approach to programming can double or triple your productivity and the quality of your work! I can teach that!
In 1983, I designed and programmed the New Page Compiler for the Space Shuttle Simulators -- 25,000 lines of FORTRAN. Since then, I have delivered numerous programs in a variety of languages, for many purposes. Out of this experience came the ability to actually 'design' software prior to coding; this yields much higher quality code in much less time. More recently, I have written my own text book for VBA (macro programming) in Microsoft Excel and I have taught it to nearly 100 engineers.
I first learned FORTRAN in college and used it extensively in grad school. I used a later version, FORTRAN88, at my job with Singer Link in Houston. Using it, I built a compiler to translate a custom language developed by NASA for the Space Shuttle Simulators. The compiler required 25,000 lines of code. I used FORTRAN88 again to build a relational database which I used to analyze the cost of training astronauts. (This was before the day when you could buy a database in a box!)
I have been using (and teaching) Excel and VBA since version 1 came out in the 1980s. I have written my own Excel and VBA manual with which I taught classes for other engineers. Several of my engineering projects for NASA were programs coded in VBA, including a detailed cost analysis for the Space Station, and a risk analysis for the Space Shuttle.

Excellent Tutor — I was really having some struggles with Physics. Nelson was able to break the material down in a way I could easily understand it. Physics as you know can really be challenging, but he helped me to get a good grasp on the material. He taught me different ways on how to apply what I learned. After my tutoring sessions, I was able to easily complete my homework and prepare for my exam. If you are h ...
