Hello,
I am an older teacher with 12 years experience. I have raised and "tutored" 2 boys of my own. I started teaching in 1979, and believe that the curriculum has been pushed down due to the growing amount of information that our children need. In my opinion, this has caused certain instances where what were at one time considered core subjects have, quite frankly, been deleted in some school districts. This is certainly not a reflection on the quality of any school district. It is simply a matter of classroom time. My objective is to not only fill in the gaps where your child may need extra help, but also to aid in grammar, penmanship, spelling and basic Math facts. These are areas where I have seen a need, not only as a teacher, but as a parent. My hope and objective is to aid in preparing our children to gain the basics they need to enter higher education with a good foundation, and to be able to compete in the global market.
I believe it all starts in the Elementary grades. As a parent and a teacher, I have seen the impact of positive reinforcement and believe in it strongly. I also believe in, and have been trained in TESA, which is an acronym for Teacher Expectations Student Achievement. There is a place where teacher and student come to know one another and understand the appropriate expectations. I will meet your child there.
