I hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry and currently work as a research scientist discovering and developing new drugs to combat human diseases.
As a graduate student, I served as a teaching assistant leading general, organic, and biochemistry tutorials and labs. For this, I was paid a teaching assistantship and received the 2005 Maeser Baeur Best Teaching Assistant award at the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at USU. This award is based mostly on student evaluations of all the teaching assistants in the department.
By the end of my first year as a teaching assistant, I began receiving several requests from students to serve as their private tutor. At the beginning I tutored because it gave me extra money. However, as time went by I found that the most satisfaction I got from tutoring was the joy and excitement I got from the voices of once struggling students calling to tell me they got an A or a B+, or they got admission into pharmacy, dental, or medical school.
For the past 22 years of my life when I was first introduced to chemistry in middle school, I have either been learning, teaching or using chemistry to discover new chemistry to treat human disease. Each time I tutor a student I have just one goal in mind – use all these experiences to make chemistry simple and “digestible” to them.
My focus in the past has been on college students but in the last semester I had a very successful and rewarding time tutoring High School students (AP Chemistry I and II). Part of the success comes from the fact that all these students were tutored in the comfort of their homes. This saved parents the hassle of drop-off and pick-up at public locations, and allowed the student to focus on the chemistry without any distractions.
Here are some reviews from these students:

"I started having Eric tutor me because I was doing badly in my 10th grade chemistry class. I wasn't keeping up with the class very well, and I just didn't grasp the overall subject. When he began tutoring me, he was very patient, and was able to see immediately what I was having trouble with, and he knew exactly how to explain it to me in a way that I would understand. Before I knew it, I was on top of the subject, and I finally understood what the teacher wanted me to do in class. Overall, Eric is a great tutor. He's very calm, and is comfortable to be around. He knows the subject of chemistry VERY well, and finds the best ways to explain it to you. Most school teachers will have you memorize a method that allows you to solve the problem, but Eric takes you back to look at the whole subject from an outside view, then builds up on it from bottom to top. This method of teaching not only taught me the subject, but led to my understanding of it and my ability to see through every problem I was given in class and understand perfectly what I was supposed to do. So overall, an excellent tutor!"

"Eric was great at quickly understanding my weaknesses and getting me back on track. He was very patient and explained things very clearly so I could understand the basic concepts not just memorize the problem. I highly recommend him for any chemistry tutoring needs. Eric, Thanks again the test went great!"

"Eric is absolutely wonderful and has been a great help to me so far this year. I am in Chemistry II AP, and with out Eric's help, would be completely lost. He is really good at explaining the theory behind all things chemistry and very helpful when solving problems. He solves problems differently than what we've seen time and time again, thereby helping you understand what is happening and how it all relates. He is very good at communicating with you, both about your strengths and weaknesses, and also about dates and times to get together. I have an extremely overloaded schedule, but Eric was able to work with me to find times that work for us. I recommend that if you are looking for a tutor in any level of Chemistry (especially organics), that you contact him. You won't regret it."
All the Parents have expressed the same feelings and I am sure you will too, after finals at the end of this semester if we start now!
Get in touch, and remember that your first hour is absolutely free if you are not 100% satisfied.
Thanks for getting in touch and as Kathie puts it, 'You won't regret it."
