I am a "math geek" and a Christian father of two beautiful young ladies.

I have passed a background check and it is on file. I would treat you and your child with the utmost respect.

Math has ALWAYS been my favorite subject. Math just makes sense to me. However, I have developed methods with my children that teach math to people for whom it doesn't "just click".

I love teaching math and other subjects to children and young adults. I have two daughters who also sometimes struggled with math, so I have experience with utilizing patience to get the best results.

I graduated from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. I graduated magna cum laude with a 3.80 GPA overall and a 3.90 GPA within my major.
My highest score on the ACT was 31--35 was the highest composite score possible at that time--with a perfect 36 in math. I once scored a 34 in science as well. My SAT math score was a 750.
I was awarded several full academic scholarships--Oglethorpe, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, University of Alabama in Huntsville, University of North Alabama, Samford University--taking the one providing me with the most opportunity for growth. I was blessed to be the winner of one of 5 James Edward Oglethorpe scholarships for full room, board, and tuition, based upon a competition with 450 students.

I look forward to hearing from you and empowering you or your child to achieve better results.

God bless you,
Jason

Thank you so very much for your kind words. It's a pleasure tutoring your daughter. I was happy that she felt so good about her Algebra II skills that she took that final despite having an A, so she could exempt a final in another class.

She worked very hard and is a FANTASTIC listener. She also did a great job of having questions ready when I arrived, which makes the most out of our time and your money.

Congratulations. I am very proud of you.

Your daughter is a great student. She was always on time and listened so well. She really is quite bright and displayed that in our lessons by taking helpful hints and putting them to good use almost immediately. Considering we started working together late in the semester, she did a fantastic job of staying on top of her assignments, making such a great comeback, and successfully scoring high enough on her tests to become exempt from her final exam. Congratulations to her and tell her to be proud of herself. I know I am.

"Great Tutor!"

Your daughter is a joy to teach. She listens and tries her best to do exactly what the tutor is instructing her to do. I was very happy to hear of her success, as well as the continued success she enjoyed toward the end of the year when she was working on her own. I am very proud of her and she should be proud of herself. Thank you for your kindness and for entrusting me with helping your child.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have a great deal of experience helping children and/or adults with all math subjects through Precalculus in the last 4 years.

The subjects on the ACT are listed below:
Pre-Algebra
Elementary Algebra
Intermediate Algebra
Coordinate Geometry
Plane Geometry
Trigonometry

Algebra 1

I am an expert in Algebra 1. In 9th grade, I sometimes even helped the teacher teach the class and often helped other students to understand what she could not easily explain. It might be my favorite subject.

My semester averages were 99+.

Algebra 2

Algebra II was my favorite subject until I reached AP Calculus. It remains one of my 3 favorite subjects for tutoring. High school averages for Algebra II were 97+. I try to explain "why" the answers are the correct ones. The goal is to help the student understand and develop a good "thought process" for approaching each type of problem.

ASP.NET

I have been a software developer for almost 19 years. I have been working with C# and ASP.NET since version 1.1 and I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (3.5). I develop web applications for a large energy firm in Houston.

Baseball

I've played baseball since the age of six and was a starting pitcher in college, graduating in 1993. Was a member of the state 4A runners-up in AL for 1989. Finished 9-1 with a .63 ERA. Batting average for HS was > .400. Hit .512 as leadoff my junior year.

Specialties are pitching (control, the curveball, exercise regimens for pitching), hitting, and defense.

C#

I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (3.5) who currently develops web applications for a large energy firm in Houston.

I have been working with C# for 5+ years. I began using C# developing business websites using ASP.NET (version 1.1 - 4). I'm proficient in VB as well, but I prefer working with C#.

Geometry

Geometry is perhaps my favorite subject in which to help students. I won individual awards in high school math team competitions during my junior year due to my love of geometry. My semester grades in geometry were 97-100.

Not everyone "sees" why certain rules apply to certain problems. Merely showing the student the answer is not the way to enhance performance. One must help them analyze the problem and find into which "mental bucket" it fits. My goal is to take all the formulas flying around in a student's head and help them learn to pick the correct one based on the information given.

I look forward to helping your student improve their performance in geometry.

Prealgebra

I am an expert in Prealgebra. In 7th and 8th grades, I competed on a traveling math squad. It helped me develop a love not only for getting the correct answer, but learning the best technique for getting that answer quickly.

My semester averages were 95-100.

Precalculus

I am a big fan of Precalculus, although it proves to be one of the more challenging subjects to teach/tutor. In my junior year, I competed on a traveling Precalculus squad. It helped me develop a love not only for getting the correct answer, but learning the best technique for getting that answer quickly.

My semester averages were 97-100.

Softball

Softball coach in Katy and Sugarland. Both daughters played competitively. I've played baseball since the age of six and played competitive softball since graduating college in 1993. Specialties are hitting and defense.
