Oglethorpe University (Mathematics)
I am a "math geek" and a Christian father of two beautiful young ladies.
I have passed a background check and it is on file. I would treat you and your child with the utmost respect.
Math has ALWAYS been my favorite subject. Math just makes sense to me. However, I have developed methods with my children that teach math to people for whom it doesn't "just click".
I love teaching math and other subjects to children and young adults. I have two daughters who also sometimes struggled with math, so I have experience with utilizing patience to get the best results.
I graduated from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. I graduated magna cum laude with a 3.80 GPA overall and a 3.90 GPA within my major.
My highest score on the ACT was 31--35 was the highest composite score possible at that time--with a perfect 36 in math. I once scored a 34 in science as well. My SAT math score was a 750.
I was awarded several full academic scholarships--Oglethorpe, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, University of Alabama in Huntsville, University of North Alabama, Samford University--taking the one providing me with the most opportunity for growth. I was blessed to be the winner of one of 5 James Edward Oglethorpe scholarships for full room, board, and tuition, based upon a competition with 450 students.
I look forward to hearing from you and empowering you or your child to achieve better results.
God bless you,

Algebra was such a difficult subject for my son, until we found Jason! He made it all make sense to him. He was passing Algebra BARELY with a 70 and ended the school year with a 95 of his final! Jason is a wonderful tutor and he is very easy to communicate with!
Great help for my son on Algebra II. It was last minute help but we are looking forward for more in the near future. Thanks!
Jason was great with my son, we started looking for tutoring at the end of the school year. My son was having difficulty communicating with his math teacher, he was failing math. He and Jason connected and his math grade went from a F to a C. We hope to continue using Jason this next year.
Jason was a really good tutor for our daughters. They were struggling in math and Jason was able to improve their scores by at least a full grade point from the time he started (middle of the school year) to the end of the school year. If we had engaged him sooner, I believe he would have made an even bigger impact. What we liked about Jason was his personality and constructive approach with our girls. Frankly, our girls can become frustrated and lose focus easily and Jason was able to establish good rapport, break things down where they were easier to understand and build off this into good weekly progress. They also really struggled with taking tests and Jason gave them some test taking techniques they applied to achieve a better result. There is no way they would have passed Geometry without Jason's tutoring. I would highly recommend Jason to anyone who needs tutoring for their children.
Jason has tutored my high school son and as a result he now has a better understanding and working knowledge of math. Jason is very positive and patient in his instruction, with a sense of caring for his students.
Jason helped both of my kids in Math. He helped my daughter in 7th and 8th Grade Math. He teaches very clearly and make everything simple. Very knowledgeable tutor. Planning to use his services again in this year also.
Jason has helped our son with baseball pitching for the past few months. His season was very successful because of Jason's patience and ability to relate to our son. He worked with him on one set of basics first and then moved to more difficult pitching techniques. Jason was very flexible with our schedule. If we weren't moving back to Dallas we would continue to use Jason.
Jason knows his math like the back of his hand. He makes sure all your questions are answered and that you understand what it is you're studying about. Any time you have a problem, you can text or call him and he'll usually answer you immediately with a solution. He can work around your schedule and is a really good tutor. I recommend you try him out.
Thank you so very much for your kind words. It's a pleasure tutoring your daughter. I was happy that she felt so good about her Algebra II skills that she took that final despite having an A, so she could exempt a final in another class.
She worked very hard and is a FANTASTIC listener. She also did a great job of having questions ready when I arrived, which makes the most out of our time and your money.
Congratulations. I am very proud of you.
Jason is very patient and made my daughter feel very comfortable from the first session. He gave her some good tips and ways to remember things which really helped her. I would recommend Jason to anyone looking for a tutor.
My daughter clicked with Jason right away. He is very patient with her and knows how to get her motivated. She understands when he explains things to her and is making better grades.
Jason is professional and has very good communication skills with teens. He is prompt and let's us know when he is running late. I am pleased with the tutoring he has provided my daughter. He likes to text if he needs to provide additional information regarding the lesson. All and all a great person and tutor.
Jason is a very excellent tutor who explains with care and attention to detail. He has made math easy to understand for my daughter. She has been doing great thanks to his tutoring. Great job.
Jason is very patient, he explains things well, moves at my pace and is very thorough with his explanations. I have had several tutors throughout my school years and he is by far the best one yet!
Jason S. is a wonderful tutor! He made himself available on very short notice to help my son prepare for a very important test.
Jason is an exceptional tutor. His calm and patient demeanor is just what my son needs to do well in his algebra class right now. I will recommend him to anyone I know who's child is struggling in math!
Jason is an excellent tutor, I have had two lessons with him now. I really enjoy his style of teaching, he's very relaxed but also very knowledgeable about the subject. He's very easy to talk to and I couldn't be happier with my choice of tutor. I have no doubt that I'll do much better in algebra this semester with his help.
Jason was great with my son, he came prepared with his own materials and honed in on my son's focus problem as well as his strong points right away. He was positive and enthusiastic. Thanks very much.
6 weeks ago my son was doomed to fail Algebra with a 60; He now has passed with an 80! Thank you Jason for going out of your way to come over on the holiday and spare of the moment the couple times we realized he had a big test the next day! Can't thank you enough!
You are most welcome Tamara. Tell your son I am very proud of him and more importantly, he should be proud of himself and have a great summer.
Jason has been very helpful and effective. He has a great personality and style to help teenagers challenged with math. He is giving our son a great deal of both capability and confidence as he prepares for upcoming exams. Thanks Jason.
My son has a hard time staying focused for long periods of time and was failing Geometry. He is now passing and we will be calling again to help him through finals. Jason has done a great job establishing a good teaching relationship with him and they seem to get along very well. He has been flexible with our schedule and has even came at the last minute. We appreciate it.
Jason is very personable and great to work with. He has been a huge help for my daughter with math. After two tutoring sessions she has scored a 90 on a quiz and a 95 on a test. This is a HUGE improvement for her!! Thanks Jason!
Mikayla is a great student. It is a joy to work with her. She learns new principles very quickly and is always willing to do the work to improve her math skills. I am very proud of her success at the end of last semester and look forward to working with her more this year.
Jason has been helping my daughter with her geometry and has been amazing. Jason is both flexible and professional. My daughter meets with him in the evenings and they get right to work, no time wasted. Time is money, so this is very important to me, also she is able to comprehend the material that she is working on after he goes over it. I am grateful that I found WyzAnt, they have made my life easier and of course Jason has made my daughter's much easier.
Your daughter is a great student. She was always on time and listened so well. She really is quite bright and displayed that in our lessons by taking helpful hints and putting them to good use almost immediately. Considering we started working together late in the semester, she did a fantastic job of staying on top of her assignments, making such a great comeback, and successfully scoring high enough on her tests to become exempt from her final exam. Congratulations to her and tell her to be proud of herself. I know I am.
We have thoroughly enjoyed having Jason tutor our daughter. He provides great strategies and learning techniques that help her grasp the concepts. He is courteous, dedicated, and reliable. I would highly recommend Jason as a math tutor.
Your daughter is a joy to teach. She listens and tries her best to do exactly what the tutor is instructing her to do. I was very happy to hear of her success, as well as the continued success she enjoyed toward the end of the year when she was working on her own. I am very proud of her and she should be proud of herself. Thank you for your kindness and for entrusting me with helping your child.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a great deal of experience helping children and/or adults with all math subjects through Precalculus in the last 4 years.
The subjects on the ACT are listed below:
I am an expert in Algebra 1. In 9th grade, I sometimes even helped the teacher teach the class and often helped other students to understand what she could not easily explain. It might be my favorite subject.
My semester averages were 99+.
Algebra II was my favorite subject until I reached AP Calculus. It remains one of my 3 favorite subjects for tutoring. High school averages for Algebra II were 97+. I try to explain "why" the answers are the correct ones. The goal is to help the student understand and develop a good "thought process" for approaching each type of problem.
I have been a software developer for almost 19 years. I have been working with C# and ASP.NET since version 1.1 and I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (3.5). I develop web applications for a large energy firm in Houston.
I've played baseball since the age of six and was a starting pitcher in college, graduating in 1993. Was a member of the state 4A runners-up in AL for 1989. Finished 9-1 with a .63 ERA. Batting average for HS was > .400. Hit .512 as leadoff my junior year.
Specialties are pitching (control, the curveball, exercise regimens for pitching), hitting, and defense.
I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (3.5) who currently develops web applications for a large energy firm in Houston.
I have been working with C# for 5+ years. I began using C# developing business websites using ASP.NET (version 1.1 - 4). I'm proficient in VB as well, but I prefer working with C#.
Geometry is perhaps my favorite subject in which to help students. I won individual awards in high school math team competitions during my junior year due to my love of geometry. My semester grades in geometry were 97-100.
Not everyone "sees" why certain rules apply to certain problems. Merely showing the student the answer is not the way to enhance performance. One must help them analyze the problem and find into which "mental bucket" it fits. My goal is to take all the formulas flying around in a student's head and help them learn to pick the correct one based on the information given.
I look forward to helping your student improve their performance in geometry.
I am an expert in Prealgebra. In 7th and 8th grades, I competed on a traveling math squad. It helped me develop a love not only for getting the correct answer, but learning the best technique for getting that answer quickly.
My semester averages were 95-100.
I am a big fan of Precalculus, although it proves to be one of the more challenging subjects to teach/tutor. In my junior year, I competed on a traveling Precalculus squad. It helped me develop a love not only for getting the correct answer, but learning the best technique for getting that answer quickly.
My semester averages were 97-100.
