I am a math and science geek. There, I admit it. I have a bachelor of science degree from the University of Houston, and have a year and a half of graduate school as well. I have taught and tutored college students for almost two years in the sciences. I specialize in chemistry/biology with some applied mathematics mixed in.

My tutoring style involves not only trying to lead students to an epiphany, but helping them see the fun side of math and science. I will often make up problems that involve a mad scientist trying to conquer the world.

If possible I will help students see the application in everything that they do. The real world (note to parents on your children's future employability), doesn't care whether you/your child can recite the Fibonacci sequence to a hundred numbers or solve complex differential equations; what does matter is the ability to understand, apply and synthesize new information. This is what I have always striven to teach every one of my students.

Interests:
As far as the personal realm goes, I enjoy gaming (Halo and elder scrolls, as well as a couple computer games), going to the gym and watching the Texans.

Availability:
I just started a temporary staff position at UH so my availability Tuesdays and Thursdays is slightly limited. Other than that, pending full time employment, my availability is extremely open and flexible.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biostatistics

I have completed coursework in advanced statistics and biostatistics totaling 9 hours (6 hours of graduate level) with a 4.0. I can tutor up to and including some multi-variate statistics (MANOVA, MANCOVA, etc.). Normally, undergraduate statistics courses terminate with one or perhaps two way ANOVA. My personal statistics program of choice is R, ma0inly because it is 100% free, but I am willing to work with SPSS or SAS at the pupil's preference.
