I am an experienced science teacher and tutor. My experience was gained in both private and public schools. I taught physical science, chemistry and physics in the Coppell School district for 21 years. My chemistry experience is in regular and pre-AP chemistry. I have taught IB physics (both standard and higher level). I have experience in Teaching APB and IB physics. I have no experience with calculus-based physics.
I have a great deal of experience with students whose first language is not English. I ran a 12 grade school in Udorn, Thailand, and taught in a French school in the United States where over half of my students were not native English speakers.
I completed intensive training and did intensive tutoring in reading and math for grades 1-8.
Some endorsements from an ex-student and parent include the following:
"I have never met a teacher with such a great sense of humor and depth of knowledge of the material. I truly appreciated the time and effort you put into your students and also the care that you showed for each one."
-Letter from former pre AP physics class
There is nothing that beats one-on-one when working with people of any age with ADD. The inability to maintain focus in the classroom without getting distracted is a huge difficulty for most. I have worked with ADD students sucessfully for many years. Currently, I have three hours of college credit for The Exceptional Child in the Classroom, which included much work on dyslexia, ADD, and all other common learning difficulties. I also have many years of in-service seminars and presentations on the topic of ADD/ADHD.
As a teacher in public schools for many years, I have had teenagers with Aspergers in my classroom and was required to take in-service classes to be able to help the students. Although there is a great deal of disagreement among the experts about the difference (or even if there is a difference) in high functioning autism and Aspergers, in those with whom I have worked who had been diagnosed elsewhere, I found both differences and similarities. I can work with both types of students with success.
I have a 13 year old grandson with autism. When he was first diagnosed ten years ago, I began taking classes, attending seminars, consulting experts in the field, etc. to become as proficient as possible in helping him with his special needs. He is very bright, but needs help with the aspects of autism that get in the way of learning. I am now proficient in helping high functioning autistic kids.
I have a master's degree in counseling. I have had a private practice for many years. Much of my work is in career counseling. Many of my students are young people in their 20s who are still looking for the RIGHT field for their skills and values. We always find several to choose from. I have also done a great deal of career guidance for high school students.
I have many years of experience teaching and tutoring all levels of chemistry through the first year of college. My actual classroom teaching was high school, but have tutored my own students in college level when they came back for help and have tutored college students of all ages in regular chemistry and chemistry for nursing programs.
Although I have taught elementary math in a formal classroom situation for 3 years, I have tutored many students of all ages in these concepts.
I have Texas TEA certification to teach all sciences 6-12. I have quite a bit of experience teaching students as young as 3rd grade, particularly gifted students. I often ran workshops for all gifted kids in the tri-county area in southeastern Kansas. I ran the gifted program for 2 high schools and 2 junior highs full time and led weekend and summer workshops for the younger ones.
My most recent teaching experience in physical science was to teach 9th graders as though it was preparation for physics and chemistry courses. I can also teach it at a more basic level if there is a need.
I am proficient in teaching and have Texas certification for all types of algebra and trig based physics. This would include conceptual, regular, pre- AP, IB (both standard and higher levels), and APB.
I have 20-25 years of training and experience with learning styles. This includes students who are audioprocessors among other slightly different learning styles.
I have a great deal of training and experience in study skills, in my master's in counseling work, tons of in-service on this topic and intense training for a summer school experiment with students who were not on track to graduate. I also worked several summers with the Y.O.U. program for 14 and 15 year olds at the University of North Texas. These students had been named as potential drop outs. Helping them learn how to study was a big part of this, particularly the summer I was Dean of Women for the program. I have Texas certification to counsel students in grdes 6-12.
We could not have found a better tutor! — My daughter has been tutored throughout the school year in Physics by Liane. We were somewhat skeptical about choosing another tutor due to less than satisfying sessions with others. We found Liane to be the best type of tutor because she is a true teacher. She is willing to take the time to teach the material until the student fully grasps the concepts, and if not will try to teach in several ...
