I have a Bachelors degree from the University of Northern Colorado in special education. I also passed the Texas 161 Certification for SPED and am currently pursuing Texas 4-8 certification. These are all part of my pursuit in trying to become a teacher. I have tutored children in the following areas: reading, math, writing, and some English as a second language. I have written behavior assessments and and implemented behavior plans for children. I have even helped with individualized education plans which are legal documents within the school districts. Each child I have helped succeed in their desired field; sometimes all that is needed is a different approach to the problem, whether it be math, reading, or writing. I have only have experience tutoring with children from K-5, yet I am willing to tutor anyone.
The children I have tutored have ranged from Aspergers to your average IQ. I enjoy thinking up different ways to help them learn the material they struggle with. I know how to work with all different types of learning traits: kinesthetic, visual, and audio. Most of the tutoring I have done has either been for a class at my university or it was pro bono. I enjoy giving back to the community and believe that it is important for society to do so. I currently volunteer at a school two days a week helping children with their reading and comprehension through what is called Read Naturally.
