After working 20 years with a major oil company as a Computer Professional, I found a new passion in teaching college students. With 5 years experience on both a college and university level, my current teaching includes Introduction to Computers and Business Computer Applications. Classes focus on basic computer skills and Microsoft Office 2010. My teacher ratings in Spring 2012 were ranked at 4.8 points on a 5 point scale by the 85 students in my classes. I am personable and get along well with my students, and am often praised for my patient and encouraging teaching style. In additional to my college level teaching, I am experienced in one-on-one training and conducted private classes as part of my corporate work.
My approach to tutoring includes an initial assessment of student needs, a review of basic concepts with visual aids, assisting student in developing effective problem-solving skills, encouraging the student to work alone to solve the problem with this new information, and then review of newly-learned concepts applied in the student's work. Tutoring is coaching and the best learning for computer skills is achieved when the students try out their newly taught skills on their own.
My focus areas include:
Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010 including:
MS Access, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Publisher
My Education is as follows:
M.B.A. in Information Management, University of Houston, Houston, Texas
B.S. in Medical Technology (Microbiology, Chemistry), University of Texas, Austin, Texas
