I care about my students, their needs, and their concerns. I currently teach physics at a major four year university and love what I do. I have a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Houston, M.S. Physics from Drexel University, M.S. Industrial Management from Purdue University, M.S. Theology from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, and a B.S. Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Academically, I received the Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Scholastic Honorary and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society awards for academic achievement. My broad education brings a variety of approaches to tutoring. I am at ease in communicating the practical approaches from engineering in tutoring as well as the more theoretical approaches of math and physics. I use similar techniques as used with the case method in business school to successfully engage students in tutoring.

I have worked with a variety of students in ability and background and am comfortable tutoring across a wide range of student diversity. I am comfortable at all levels in science and physics as well as mathematics. I have worked broadly in education with one of the state education regions as Director of Educational Outreach for the physics department. In doing so, I worked directly with high school students and teachers which further acquainted me with student concerns and needs. That coupled with my experience at the university prepares me to tutor successfully.

My goal is to assist students to succeed in their education. I am an experienced teacher and have worked with students individually and in the classroom for twenty years, and my students excel in their course work. I work with students from middle school through the university. My philosophy of tutoring focuses on the student, student concerns, and student needs to assist students to master their education. My approach addresses the subject concepts before engaging the solution of problems in the subject of interest. Students do best when they master concepts before engaging problem solutions. My tutoring encourages development of problem working skills and good study habits. I work with students in the manner that best fits their learning. In doing so, we develop a simple model that includes visualization of the problem, learning how to restate the problem in the student's words, and learning how to restate word problems in mathematical equations.

I have an extensive background in corporate research and management and in education. That experience greatly benefits my tutoring. I have a broad education which also assists my tutoring. My education covered engineering, business, physics, and theology. I have experienced a wide range of approaches to learning, and students will gain from that knowledge. Astronomy opens our eyes to the universe and cosmology. I have taught astronomy for twenty years and enjoy exploring it in tutoring. We begin with the early Greeks continuing with Copernicus and Kepler. From there we explore the inner solar system, the outer planets, asteroids and stars. Stars take us into our galaxy and stellar evolution. I am comfortable working with students in all areas from Copernicus to the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram for stellar evolution.

I have an M.S. Theological Studies from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. My studies included one year of Biblical Hebrew, one year of Biblical Greek, Old Testament studies, New Testament studies, courses in systematic theology, and a variety of related courses in theology. In addition, I am an ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church and have served as an associate pastor at a major United Methodist Church. I currently do work in theology with Southern Methodist University and the University of South Africa.

I am conversant with the doctrinal teachings of Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and major Protestant denominations. I have regularly taught the Bible in a variety of venues and am extremely comfortable in tutoring Bible Study.

My knowledge of Hebrew, Greek, Biblical Exegesis, Biblical Exposition, and theology greatly contributes to the tutoring and teaching of Bible Study, and I believe students can benefit from my tutoring.

Calculus introduces abstract mathematical concepts that often require significant explanation in to understand its fundamental concepts. Calculus becomes even more complex in the second half of the basic course. Here tutoring can be extremely helpful, and I have a lot of experience working with students to assist their grasping the fundamental concepts important for calculus. I have worked with calculus in depth and understand what we need to do to master it.

I have considerable experience with the variety of skills required in chemistry. I have worked with chemistry in both research and in teaching. In chemistry, we apply math including geometry. I work with students in the all areas such as writing formulas and balancing equations. I work in tutoring with students to assist their developing the math skills required in chemistry as well as concepts. I have worked extensively in assisting students in their development of the investigative skills demanded in chemistry. I have taught and tutored chemistry and understand what we need to do to master it.

Elementary math begins the student's entry into math. A good working knowledge of elementary math must be acquired for success in all upper level math courses. The student in elementary math learns the basic math skills he/she will need in order to solve problems in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. Here you learn the basic math that you will need for many of the courses you will take later. A good foundation in elementary math sets the stage for other math courses. I have worked with elementary math extensively and understand what we need to do to master it.

I have extensive experience in all aspects of computers. My experience includes installing and monitoring hardware and devices as well as setting up networking. My experience in programming includes Basic, Visual Basic, Fortran, and C. I have worked with both Linux and Microsoft operating systems and am current with Windows 7. I have worked in depth with Microsoft Office. I have worked with a variety of people including those new to computers and those taking on computers for the first time. My goal is to assist students to succeed in the use of computers. I am an experienced teacher and have worked with students individually and in the classroom for twenty years. I love geology. It opens up our world to us. I have worked extensively in assisting students in their gaining understanding of how our world works. In geology we investigate a wide range of areas from plate tectonics to fossils. I have taught and tutored geology and understand what we need to do to master it.

Geometry works with forms, and the development of visual skills are important for mastering geometry. I have worked extensively in assisting students in their development of the visual skills and algebra skills demanded in the solution of geometry problems. Mastering geometry is important for many fields from the sciences to engineering. It sets the stage for success in upper level courses such as trigonometry and solid geometry. I have worked with geometry extensively and understand what we need to do to master it.

I have worked with linear algebra in a variety of ways. My association with linear algebra includes working with the multi-dimensional matrices of quantum mechanics and the solving for eigenvectors and eigenvalues. My work also required numerical analysis and computation applied to linear algebra. Further, my work in linear algebra includes determinants, vectors and vector spaces, the Gaussian elimination method, matrices, and systems of linear equations. I have two degrees including the Ph.D. in physics, and you cannot do upper level physics without a thorough knowledge of linear algebra. I look forward to tutoring linear algebra.

I have a broad background in mathematics that qualifies me to assist preparation for the Praxis I Math Test. My background includes courses from basic math, algebra, calculus, plane geometry, solid geometry, descriptive geometry, trigonometry, differential equations, linear algebra, statistics, quantitative analysis, mathematical methods in physics, numerical analysis, statistical physics, special and general relativity, and quantum physics. My degrees in electrical engineering, business, and physics included these subjects. My research in physics applied them. I have taught and tutored students successfully in math and look forward to tutoring those preparing for the Praxis I Math Test.

I have an M.S. Theological Studies from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. In my studies, I have studied the major religions of the world. Studies include Hinduism, the question of caste and sub-castes, its various forms such as Sikhism, as well as its many expressions of the ultimate from Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Study of Buddhism includes its origins in Hinduism and the rejection of religion and the infinite in Zen Buddhism. Yoga varies in its application from Hinduism to Buddhism to Zen Buddhism. Buddha preached religion absent of authority and ritual and emphasized the four noble truths of Buddhism. Confucius-Kung Fu-tzu or Kung the Master, born c. 551 BCE influenced Chinese culture until the early twentieth century. Temples and other monuments were built for the religion of Confucius who emphasized family and community and respect for elders. Lao Tzu born c. 604 BCE founded Taoism, more of practice than other major religions, The Abrahamic religions of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity all trace their origins to Abraham and differ in belief and practice. Islam sees Muhammad born c. 570 ACE as the prophet of Allah, and the last prophet. God delivered the Koran to Muhammad which Islam reveres as the Work of God in contrast to the Judeo-Christian view of Scripture as inspired. Judaism is characterized by practice rather than belief in contrast to Islam and Christianity. One does not have to subscribe to a particular set of beliefs to be Jewish. Examining these religions looks at which embrace the thought of the infinite, orthopraxis, and orthodoxy.

My knowledge of religion, philosophy, and theology greatly contributes to the tutoring and teaching of religion, and I believe students can benefit from my tutoring.

I have five degrees including B.S. Electrical Engineering, M.S. Industrial Management, M.S. Physics, M.S. Theology, and Ph.D. physics. These degrees required a variety of study habits. I earned the honorary degrees of Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi, evidence of good study habits. In this academic work, I achieved through knowing how to organize study habits and in discerning areas that required emphasis for success.

I successfully use what I have acquired in assisting my students to better organize their work and study habits. This assistance consists in showing students how to study smart. Studying smart requires methodical approach to learning. For example in the study of a course like biology, the student learns how to approach the material, highlight key points, and check in the margin items that are not clear. He/she works on the items that require clarification and erases the pencil checks as he/she gains understanding. In that way, the student always identifies areas requiring extra work and focusses on those items.

In addition, I assist the student in working out an organized study plan and identifying appropriate study aids for each course.

Trigonometry works with geometrical forms. It requires the algebraic manipulation of trigonometric formulas. I have worked extensively in assisting students in identifying the necessary trigonometric forms for conversions and problem solution. Mastering trigonometry is particularly important in physics and engineering. Knowledge of trigonometry eases the solution of many of the problems students will encounter in upper level courses. I have worked with trigonometry extensively and understand what we need to do to master it.
