Algebra, like many upper level maths, can be really difficult for anyone to learn; linear algebra, theorems, etc. So having someone that will not only explain but be able to show the "how to" of so many strange pieces of math & how to do the little tiny steps that so many folks take for granted & never explain. That's a necessity.
Being able to work the maths, comfortably, that's what I do. And the practice with worksheets really helps support the student in learning. Practice does make perfect.
I'm here and I can help.
I have a special interest in prospective military candidates doing well; my Dad was West Point/Air Force, my granddad was Army & Army Air Force. So the Military has a special place in my heart.
Regardless of whether you/your child needs help in maths, English, or just logic...we'll get it done!
I always look forward to meeting a prospective military person & feel privileged in being able to help.
Been working in the computer industry for 20+ yrs. Working at the top as project management, down to lower levels of BA (business analyst), systems analyst, etc. Heavy in process, gap management, training, and reporting information via dashboard.
I have 30 years as a computer engineer and am an IEEE member. I started off in hardware (Compaq '84-'91), moved into software so I am very familiar with the intersection between the 2 disciplines.
While working in software I have learned many languages, built numerous websites, process & kaizen, consultant for the last 15 yrs. Please feel free to look at some of the rest of my computer areas on this site.
Have shifted from consulting (all over the country) to teaching / training. Because I love to see that look in someone's eyes of "I think I can, no, I know I can do it".
I have been a Computer Engineer for almost 30 years, have worked with every version of Windows that has been on the market. I have worked with every version of Office that has been on the market.
I have worked in the computer industry for the last 15 years building software for a variety of companies, have taught others how to build software and how to use that software, and yes I've also written training manuals on how to use it.
I'll be happy to help you on your journey through the computer, the software, your hardware, etc.
And you will see that the logic of it is really not that hard.
Have been in computers for 20+ yrs, starting my own business in desktop publishing - a small local magazine in the Houston area that spread to other states surrounding TX, so I have the knowledge of the hands on of desktop publishing, and the know how of getting advertising for a publication, and getting the "word out". Desktop publishing done primarily with Adobe products. I was listed by Adobe at expert level initially in 1994.
I have worked in the computer industry since '79, when there was no Windows; the only way to converse directly with the computer was DOS or UNIX.
I still use those skills today. Many people in the industry do not need those skills today, but for the last 14 years I have built software from the ground up and taught others how to do the same.
That necessitates the knowledge of being able to access machines at their core levels - which includes DOS or UNIX types of languages.
I have a business background - I started working in hardware in 1979, over the years moved into software.
I started with Compaq here in Houston, my work included hardware, software, testing, engineering. I worked with the Power Supply group & was Lead in testing all new boards for Power supplies for a two year period, before moving up in Engineering (hardware).
Over the years, process has proven to be more important, but the Hardware background (boards, transistors, etc.) has never left me. My IEEE Engineer number is available upon request.
Math is so important, an absolute necessity in today's computer driven world. Oftentimes younger students do not get the attention & one-on-one instruction in the classroom that they need. And often parents are just unsure - I understand.
There's the importance to understand, especially at a young age, the dance of numbers, & just feeling comfortable with how to think about & play with numbers. That knowledge can never be taken away once the child learns how numbers work together. It's an incredible feeling to see a child -really- understand it.
English is so important and there are so many pieces to learn.
There's the way that the language is constructed, understanding verbs, nouns, and adjectives. How to use present and past tenses, and when. How to use irregular verbs and participles.
How to write papers, how to read for success, how to make notes for those papers. How to say and write things to make for smooth transitions in statements and ideas for others to read.
And most importantly, understanding the vocabulary, the building blocks of the English language itself.
I find that most people, especially students, need to add more words, more vocabulary to their repertoire.
Have taught ESL to many students since early 90s. I have had many successes. I enjoy teaching it and the students seem to enjoy it.
After more than 25 years as a Computer Engineer (IEEE) with a focus on building software, teaching process, & training in general, I find that I can help most folks.
Whether that's with your website, training on most of the Office products, how to setup your system, etc. Even working on a plan to teach a few of your office folks at the same time a particular area of the MS Office products, I can help.
Government & Politics
Government and politics are in high profile as subjects right now, and even more so due to a lack of general knowledge about these subjects.
As subjects, they are fascinating, especially because we have a very different form of governemnt than most.
It's a fascinating form of government, only 200 years old, in some ways so much simpler than others, in some ways so difficult to understand.
One of the reasons I am exceptionally qualified for PowerPoint success, & computer work in general, is that I've worked in the field for well over 25 yrs... In most of that time I've worked in positions where PPT has had to be used to make lovely, silly, simple & complex things clear to other folks.
Sometimes it's really fun, sometimes just very satisfying - a job well done.
Let me know which sort of presentation you wish to learn about or produce, we'll make it happen!
I have been working with Microsoft Office Suite & MS Windows since they first came out and have been teaching them almost as long.
There are peculiarities in all of the Microsoft products and I can help guide you on your learning journey because I've learned it and taught it for so many years.
And teach you all the tips and tricks for making templates to help 'fast track' your documentation skills (Word), your presentation skills (PowerPoint), & all of the other Office products...are you ready?
Knowing the physical sciences, and by extension "how the world works", is a big deal. We are asked every day in jobs, by the media, and in every level of school "do you know how this works?". And if you/your child do not know "how", then you are at a disadvantage.
This level of knowledge is a necessity for anyone that wants to do well in the world, no matter what level they are or that they aspire to. I really enjoy opening up the world of "How To..." to kids, seeing that look on their faces of "maybe I can do this, I really think I can do this" to "I CAN do this!".
That's what drives me and keeps me coming back for more!
Reading is such a fundamental need for everyone in our society, & critical reading is a fundamental need for everyone. The earlier that a child reads, & understands what is read, the better that child will do as the years go by.
Children that read early, normally have better opportunities in life, high school, college, etc.
I was lucky enough to grow up in a 'reading family'. I understood more at an early age, would converse easily with adults when I was under 10, etc.
Critical reading skills gives a poise & understanding to children, they feel that they CAN understand what is put in front of them (to read) and that they can figure it out. That can be an almost priceless gift to a child...
And I'm lucky enough to be able to help.
I have studied religion, theology, and philosophy for over 30 years. I am not an expert in any particular religion but I am well-versed in the big 3 mono-theistic religions, most of the general nature/wiccan/pagan types and a variety of the Buddhist/Eastern types.
I am happy to help in the area of comparative religion or any other areas that touch on religion of all sorts.
In the course of tutoring and counseling, reading skills are just part of the package.
And the most important is 'how to' read for success. Many people (young and old) do not know how to 'critically' read information to precisely answer questions about a particular passage. This is just one of the skills I focus on.
In general skills, I show how to utilize those same 'critical reading skills' to develop small bite size items for use in SAT testing.
This is immensely useful in end of term testing situations - whether college, junior, or high school - bringing the same reading skills to bear throughout the semester and school year. This is very useful for a variety of testing, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing - all areas of comprehension testing.
In the course of tutoring and counseling, writing/essay skills are just part of the package.
And the most important is 'how to' write an essay for success - regardless of subject matter. Many people (young and old) do not know how to 'properly' write an essay to precisely answer the writing assignment question given to them, whether for a book, a particular passage, a specific issue or a general essay. This is just one of the skills I focus on.
This helps all students because writing an essay is a very simple formula, how the student achieves that essay shows their individual 'voice'.
And when the student writes that essay during testing, whether SAT, THEA, or a general college essay - they will have the confidence that comes from practice and multiple successes.
In the course of tutoring and counseling, study skills are just part of the package.
This includes 'how to' read for success. Many people (young and old) do not know how to 'critically' read information to precisely answer questions about a particular passage. This is just one of the skills I focus on.
In general skills, I show how to utilize those same 'critical reading skills' to develop small bite size items for later use in testing. This can be immensely useful in situations like end of term testing - in both college and junior or high school - bringing the same study skills to bear throughout the semester or school year. This is very useful for a variety of testing, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing - all sorts of comprehension testing.
Have built websites - simple to complex - since 1996, most recent business website built in 2009. The process is rather complex, but simple for me, since it has been done for so long.
Some of the tools that I have worked with (that are still around) HTML, MS FrontPage, Corel, Adobe (PhotoShop, Acrobat, Distiller, Professional), CSS templates, and Paypal shopping carts.
My favorite web hosting service is GoDaddy.
Because I have done this so much, I will be able to take you through the process with much less hassle than you figuring it out on your own.
The old saying is "those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it." We learn best -hopefully- by seeing other's failures and successes and learning from them.
Fortunately, world history has more of those success/failure stories than just American History.
Let's learn together.
