My name is Andy and I absolutely LOVE chemistry! There, I admitted it! Unfortunately, you probably don't and more than likely, it's NOT YOUR FAULT. Chemistry can be a difficult subject to learn but can be even more difficult to TEACH. This is why a good chemistry teacher is hard to find.

I've been teaching advanced placement chemistry at the high school (and college) level for 10 years and have worked with various chemistry teachers. Even IF a chemistry teacher/tutor understands chemistry, they do not necessarily teach it well or EVEN LIKE IT! This saddens me, because every teacher should LOVE what they teach.

I earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry as well as a minor in education from Texas A&M University and loved every minute of it! Not only do I understand chemistry, but I understand how the brain processes and learns new information. There are many tutors that are good at math and science, but they don't have the added benefit of understanding the art and science of transferring new (or difficult) information. Additionally, I am certified with the state of Texas to teach science grades K-12.

I have found chemistry to be very PRACTICAL and EXCITING, and it shows through in the way I teach it. In fact, all of my personal hobbies involve chemistry (beer making, soap making, etc.). I use various manipulatives including demonstrations and 3-D models that will help you truly understand the material. I am 100% confident that you will leave our tutoring session feeling LESS STRESSED OUT and EXCITED!

Elementary Education:
Elementary (K-6th), Elementary Math, Elementary Science, Study Skills
Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Chemistry, Elementary (K-6th), Geometry, Prealgebra, Study Skills
Test Preparation:

Algebra 1

Algebra is probably the most practical of the mathematics. Understanding graphs, proportions, and how to solve simple equations is essential for every student regardless of their field of study. Because algebra is a prerequisite to understanding chemistry, and my specialty is chemistry, I have a very strong understanding of algebra and how it relates to practical applications.

Algebra 2

Like algebra I, Algebra 2 is beautiful in its logic. These algebraic skills allow us to transform complex ideas into simple ones very efficiently. Unfortunately, its usefulness doesn't become evident until much later when these concepts are applied in the sciences or business world. But if you stick with it, you will never be disappointed in the time you invested to learn this amazing information. It will make you a smarter and more logical human being. Because of my degree in chemistry, I have seen firsthand the many applications of algebra. I hope I have the chance to help you learn it as well.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Texas A&M university and have been teaching chemistry for 6 years at a high school in Houston, TX. I have a total of 10 years of teaching/tutoring experience. While I am very qualified to teach any math and science, I have a special passion for chemistry!

I am highly qualified to tutor students who plan to take the GED test for a variety of reasons. First, I actually took the GED test at the age of 16, after dropping out of high school for personal and family reasons; thus, I understand exactly what goes into being successful on this test. Second, I went on to achieve a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Texas A&M University, so I know it's possible to still be successful, even after having faced some obstacles in my academic career.

A cereal box... a basketball... an engine block, everything in our world has a shape. Geometry is a beautiful mathematics that uses simple logic to understand these shapes and the world around us. A mastery of geometry is essential to understanding the next level of mathematics, and I have had many years of experience using and teaching geometry.

This is the first named mathematics course and is very fundamental in almost every field of study. Without a strong mastery of prealgebra, every following math and science course will be very difficult. I have worked with thousands of students over the course of many years and understand perfectly how to help a young mind most effectively grasp these concepts.

I've taught High School Chemistry for the last 6 years. Thus, I have firsthand experience with helping students prepare for the Math and Science STAAR tests. I also have experience in preparing students for the TAAS and TAKS tests.
