My name is Andy and I absolutely LOVE chemistry
! There, I admitted it! Unfortunately, you probably don't and more than likely, it's NOT YOUR FAULT. Chemistry can be a difficult subject to learn but can be even more difficult to TEACH. This is why a good chemistry teacher is hard to find.
I've been teaching advanced placement chemistry at the high school (and college) level for 10 years and have worked with various chemistry teachers. Even IF a chemistry teacher/tutor understands chemistry, they do not necessarily teach it well or EVEN LIKE IT! This saddens me, because every teacher should LOVE what they teach.
I earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry as well as a minor in education from Texas A&M University and loved every minute of it! Not only do I understand chemistry, but I understand how the brain processes and learns new information. There are many tutors that are good at math
, but they don't have the added benefit of understanding the art
and science of transferring new (or difficult) information. Additionally, I am certified with the state of Texas to teach science grades K-12.
I have found chemistry to be very PRACTICAL and EXCITING, and it shows through in the way I teach it. In fact, all of my personal hobbies involve chemistry (beer making, soap making, etc.). I use various manipulatives including demonstrations and 3-D models that will help you truly understand the material. I am 100% confident that you will leave our tutoring session feeling LESS STRESSED OUT and EXCITED!
Although I am very experienced in chemistry and the higher mathematics
, I have taught many young ones as well. In fact, I have found that many elementary and middle school teachers lack insight into what their students will be learning later on, long after they have left. I really enjoy teaching the early levels of math and science because I feel I am laying a better foundation for their future classes. I am patient, work very well with kids, and am very qualified to advise parents on how to navigate the public school system.
