Hi everyone! My name is Mandy, and I am committed to helping you out in your academic voyage. I am excited to share knowledge with anyone who wants to learn.

I graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. Throughout my academic career, I have helped tutor fellow colleagues in math and science. While studying, I came to realize that I understood the concepts better when I was able to help others understand the same concept.

I have noticed that people can become frustrated with math and sciences. These fields tend to be more challenging because they build off preceding lessons. Missing one block could consequently lead to the foundation being unstable and ultimately crumbling. I have the capability to break the material down and present it to which you can relate and understand. I also have experience tutoring those with ADD/ADHD.

Anyone you encounter has been in the same place as you are now, but this is why we are here because someone took the time to help us too. This is why I would love the opportunity to help you achieve your goal in succeeding in your academic career.

Algebra 1

I have tutored algebra previously to many students. I use math daily with my occupation, school and personal life as well. I would help my students understand the math concepts through real life experiences and solving word problems. Building on these small math steps, helps later when math becomes more challenging. Repetitive math and word problems practiced daily aids in succeeding. I am able to teach algebra because I can teach other types of math courses that utilize the same basic concepts such as pre-algebra and statistics.

Anatomy

I have taken Anatomy while in high school, undergraduate and while studying in physician assistant's school and made A's. I also have worked in the medical field since I was in high school making anatomy a priority to know. I have also tutored family and friends on anatomy.

Biology

I have a biological science degree that consisted of taking many science based courses. I have the background as well as the passion to teach students to love science. In teaching science to someone, hands on explanations can make the concepts understandable.

Chemistry

I have taken and tutored chemistry 1 and 2 at high school and undergraduate level. I was also asked to teach a class period in Intro to Chemistry for a teacher that was not feeling well. I made A's in all my chemistry classes. I believe breaking the material down helps simplify the concepts for the student to understand. Writing the problem out on paper step by step helps to double check one's work. When balancing formulas, checks and balances helps.

Elementary Math

I have tutored others for elementary math. I use math daily with my work, school and personal life. I would teach my students real life experiences that they can understand and help with word problems and math concepts. Building on these small math steps, helps later when math becomes more challenging. Repetitive math and word problems practiced daily aids in succeeding. I am able to teach elementary math because I can teach other types of math courses that utilize the same basic math concepts such as pre-algebra, algebra, and statistics.

Elementary Science

I have a biological science degree that consisted of taking many science based courses. I have the background as well as the passion to teach students to love science. In teaching science to someone, hands on explanations can make the concepts understandable.

Genetics

I have a degree in biological sciences that consisted of taking genetics as a course and as a lab. I also have a three year research background based on genetics. Not only do I tutor genetics now but I also have while as an undergraduate.

Grammar

I use grammar on a daily basis. I silently correct people when they misuse a word in a sentence. Aside from tutoring sessions of grammar on parts of speech, reading is a tool that can be used in perfecting grammar.

Microsoft Excel

I use Microsoft Excel frequently in my academic studies as well as at work and home for budget means. I have helped others to navigate around the program to better understand it. I know how to use the data for numerical formulas to create charts for display that can be seen within the document or separately on a different tab.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I use Microsoft Powerpoint frequently in my academic studies as well as at work. I have helped others to navigate around the program to better understand it. I know how to insert tables, charts and pictures within a slide show and include animations to transition the pictures and words. I am able to transfer a document or part of it from any Microsoft application to a PowerPoint presentation.

Microsoft Word

I use Microsoft Word on a daily basis in my academic studies as well as at work. I have helped others to navigate around the program to better understand it. I know how to insert tables, picture art and charts as well as changing the format of the document to specific standards. I have the knowledge of knowing how to use tracker review when I want to show edits to a paper I am critiquing for a colleague which is helpful when tutoring individuals.

Prealgebra

I use math daily in life. I would teach my students to understand the concepts through life experiences when solving word problems. One of the keys to success is repetitive math and word problems practiced daily. I am able to tutor pre-algebra because I took pre-algebra as a course and I teach other types of math courses that use similar concepts such as algebra and statistics.

Reading

I love and enjoy reading especially if it is great book or informational. I read every day because reading improves vocabulary and grammar as well as strengthening the brain. In tutoring, I would have the student read a challenging book but at the student's preference so he/she learns to enjoy reading.

Spelling

I am proficient to tutor spelling because I have tutored young children before in elementary. I also won the spelling bee when I was in 3rd grade. When tutoring spelling, I believe repetition is key to learning and knowing the word at hand. Writing it down and spelling it a loud helps instill the word.

Vocabulary

I am proficient to tutor vocabulary because I have tutored young children before in elementary. When tutoring vocabulary, I believe repetition is key to learning. Writing it down and saying it aloud helps instill the meaning and sound of the word. Reading higher grade level books aids in augmenting one's vocabulary as well.
